Short of using the wrecker attachment, has anyone any suggestions for adding weight to the rear when driving a tractor off-road? The lack of weight when bobtailing will produce a lot of wheel spin and little traction....stressing the drive train with the front end engaged, I might add....
If you have had one of the original solid state flasher units, this wouldn't happen, the breaker would have tripped. In the sixties, they were designed with a heavy duty SCR, which could handle shorted loads long enough to open the CB.
There may be some new designs out there with short circuit...
Checked the FMTV operator's TM, but found only this illustration hinting at a seatbelt, no other reference.
Are the seatbelts in this vehicle 3-point (over the shoulder) or just the lap type?
My 1969 8x8 manual shows the use of the seatbelt. I have also found that driving faster off-road really...
The Elsbett conversion for the 300SD specifies never to use WVO and the rapeseed VO (canola oil) must meet certain standards.
Elsbett is a single tank 100% VO system, however, below freezing temps calls for mixing with regular diesel or 100% regular diesel.
Since I have a sum total of one tire mounting experience under my belt, I'm not going to suggest anything, but I'm curious....The bias ply tire 16-20 NDCC tire for my 8x8 has a date code of 499, (which probably is 1989) and is far stiffer than described above. After almost twenty years, the bead...
Yes, Joe sent me a msg about that, no rush, just hang on to it for now, thank you. I should have the six Goodyears some time this weekend and that will do me for roadworthyness with several originals to spare.
I have found that's it's easier to get the compression fittings aligned if the injectors are loosened up a bit first. Don't force the threads, you should be able to get them started by hand.
Thank you all for sharing.....and making some of us feeling bad for not being ready for the trip ourselves.
I'm secretly planning for the drive to Cabell's rally in September with the 8x8, ....historic tags minimal insurance, roadworthy tires.....
The hose clamp for the turn signal switch only grounds the indicator light, the flasher unit is grounded via wire "C" on the box.
For a more reliable operation and to save the flasher unit in case of shorted circuits or overloads add a relay as shown here.
This subject has been covered many...
If it's for the 5-ton trucks, it would not be the same and since they are NOS, probably without any of the accessories....
A fresh fuel tank would be very nice, IMHO a lot of problems with the IP and the FDC are caused by rust from the aging tanks.
I have no problem with posting ads in the...
You'll have to remove the hydraulic head, like serial14 above, to replace them.
I think Bottleworks on the forum has viton rings, which is great if you plan on running biofuels in particular.
You will need to replace the O-rings of the hydraulic head. Also do an oil analysis of the crankcase oil, it probably has a high percentage of fuel ...
As an alternative to standing on the ring to keep it in place, I made a bracket and needed very little effort to tap it (the ring) in place, tapping it progressively around the circle.
Followed the recommended precautions and popped the beads by slowly filling the tire to about 35 psi, put a new...
