    increasing reliability and offroad performance

A purpose-built Deuce 'buggy' would GET DOWN. Always wanted to see one built. Never enough to build one myself.

    increasing reliability and offroad performance

I like the steptank idea. Been thinking about using those on Mah Deuce. How large are those tanks, typically? Are the dimensions anything standard? But I don't agree with your comment about increasing ground clearance under the rocker panels. Who cares if the transfercase is the lowest point...

    Deuce M35 Air Brake Modification

Maybe not an easy upgrade, or worth the trouble. But I've seen 2.5-ton rockwell axles with 8-lug hubs, with disc brakes, with custom 10-lug hubs, with 5-ton rockwell spindles/hubs, etc. Only saying that just about anything is possible...

    Runaway Multifuel cutoff?

Call 780.465.4429 and ask to talk to Ken Williams. He helped me (Jesse Katz) put together a list of all the parts that a person would need to adapt their throttle cutoff system of a Deuce.

    Runaway Multifuel cutoff?

I've been talking with the folks at Roda Deaco about developing a throttle cutoff 'kit' for our deuces (and multifuel 5-tons). But they have all the parts a person would need to install one right now, and I would guess they have parts that could be made to fit most other diesel applications.

    increasing reliability and offroad performance

I like the idea of eliminating the running boards, boxes, and fuel tank under the cab. I would have done that on Mah Deuce, but storage space is at a premium (motorhome conversion). It would be very easy to build a long, narrow fuel tank that would fit between the framerails and the bottom of...

    Emergency stopping questions

Good point Lance. What about if an air cutoff switch is installed though? That would behave similarly to a throttle body / butterfly closing, right?

They must be out of their minds...

Somebody posted something about being able to buy brand new 11.00 Firestone T831's for a little over $200ea. Would like to get in on that...

    before I install this transfer-case...

Yeah, MAJOR bummer. I drove all the way up to WA to get it, and I spent a lot of time cleaning it up, installing new seals, and installing it. And yes, I'm sure it's the transfercase. I left the access covers off, so I could tell exactly where the noise was coming from. I think this probably has...

    before I install this transfer-case...

Well, I'm right back where I started. Took Mah Deuce out for a test-drive this afternoon and the new transfer-case started making an absolutely awful screeching/squealing noise, just a few miles away from my house. I was able to limp it home, but it seems pretty well seized up. Looks like it's...

    Torque Rod Lengthening

Yeah, that's the right idea. But if you want to make the ladder-bar adjustable (pinion angle), you'll need to add another pivot where the lower link attaches to the upper link. I probably wouldn't bother with that if it was my truck. Just get all your mounting point set up right the first time...

    Skid Marks from Towing

Let's see if someone can give us a definitive answer about that. I'm curious (but not curious enough to go look it up).

    Skid Marks from Towing

Someone pointed out a while ago that the leafspring pads can be reversed to increase the caster. Been meaning to do that on Mah Deuce. Really? I thought so too, but someone told me that's not true - as long as there is radio communication between the two. We were talking about having passengers...

    Fording Kit Instalation

Just search SS. It's for the air compressor. Promise. I hooked mine up that way, and so have a lot of other members. If you search for topics related to 'slobber tube', you'll find a few good ideas as far as what you can do with that tube.

    Fording Kit Instalation

That fitting is for the air compressor intake, and if you run the slobber-tue to it without any type of CCV or anything, you run the risk of that tube collecting gunk and building pressure in your engine, and/or blowing out engine oil and soot and whatever else all over your air filter. Maybe...

    395/85/20 Tires installed

Haven't tried it on a deuce yet, but shocks certainly can reduce wheel-hop. Axle-wrap is something different (should only be a problem with bobbed deuces). I'm planning on installing 6 2.5" diameter desert racing-type remote reservoir shocks on Mah Deuce, and would be willing to bet that it...

    Nato cable plug adapator

Why not just switch to the newer-style plug?

    Flat Black Deuce?

I was going to try to find a link to those pics.

    Torque Rod Lengthening

Thanks, but that's a pretty common technique for controlling axle-wrap on rock crawlers and desert trucks. If you didn't want to use a shackle, you could use a telescoping ladder-bar instead. Seen that done too. If you search pirate4x4, you'll find more info on this topic than you'll want to...

    Torque Rod Lengthening

Yeah, I understand. With the limited amount of suspension travel that you're likely to have with that springpack, you might be OK. Only way to know is to try it. Mock it up, cycle the suspension. Make adjustments. Repeat as necessary.
