I'm swapping an LDS engine into Mah Deuce and I've been trying to find specs for the 5-ton PS pumps. My new engine is still sealed in the crate, so I can't check the numbers to see which model I have, but is it safe to assume that they're all putting out somewhere between 5-6gpm and 100-1500psi...
I don't know anything about that trailer, but couldn't imagine that you'd damage it by towing it. What I'd be thinking about is making a driveshaft and coupler for a deuce/5-ton though. It's highly likely that my M103 trailer will end up with another deuce rear axle under it someday...
Oh and after the engine-swap I'll have a power-steering pump, and I'm planning on replacing the stock steering linkage with a full-hydro setup - so I don't think I'll ever have a chance to do a fair back-to-back comparison. But I guess all that really matters is how the tires wear, and how the...
Wish I could tell you, but I've driven the truck less than 20 miles since I mounted the new wheels & tires. In the middle of replacing the cab and an engine-swap right now. From one project to the next...
What kind of truck is that supposed to be hooked-up to? Would love to know more about how the military transferred power from the truck to the trailer.
Reddot makes a hydraulic AC compressor, but why not go engine-driven? An electric compressor would draw a LOT of power, so the engine would need to be running anyway, and if the engine has to generate the electrical power to run the electric compressor, that doesn't sound like a very efficient...
Thanks G. I didn't know there were different versions of the springer seats. How are they different? I'll have to download that TM, but do they use those shoulder-strap mounts for springer seats, or just for box seats?
If I run an airbag, I'd still have to run a shock. Coilovers are are nice simple package, and they're very adjustable. I can get all kinds of different spring-rates, and the preload is very easy to change. The valving on most of those shocks is also externally adjustable, so I can dial-in the...
Sorry, maybe I should have made it a bit clearer. If the shoulder-straps are anchored to the cab, they're going to shift and get tighter and looser as the seats move up/down. On the other hand, if they're anchored to the seat base, I don't think they'd be strong enough. The solution Gimp pointed...
In general, or are you talking specifically about suspension seats? I know a bit about mounting 4 and 5-point harnesses in race-type applications, but I've never had a vehicle with suspension seats before. I understand what you're saying about compression though. That was my concern, and the...
Oh, that's a GREAT idea. I can see how it would be really easy to mount those straps so that they wouldn't restrict the movement of the seat, but wouldn't have too much slack in them. Now that I'm thinking about it, that might be a good way to handle the shoulder-straps too. Only problem is...
I'd like to find one of those 'kits'. I've found some connections in my wiring harness that need to be replaced, and I need to make some other modifications. Anybody know where I might look?
I'm going to install some customized springer seats in Mah Deuce. I'm just going to mount low-back baja-type suspension seats (like these) on top of them, and then I'm going to replace the springs and shocks with coilover shocks off a full-suspension mountain bike (like these).
I just finished...
If any of you guys want to read about hydro steering setups, forget the monster truck stuff - just go to pirate4x4.com. Lots of rock crawlers are running rear-steering rockwells, and you'll find a bunch of helpful information there.
