So about 18 years ago I was working as a small engine mechanic at a mom and pop shop.
Some guy brought in a 5kw air cooled Army diesel generator that he bought and wouldn't start.
One of the guys at the shop was a diesel locomotive mechanic, he was the first to take a look at it. He...
I don't, because mine is more for backup use, not regular use. From what I understand biodiesel breaks down a lot faster than regular diesel does, so not a good option for an emergency/standby unit. The other issue is if there is any gunk in your fuel system, it WILL clean it up, and you'll...
It's easy enough to wire it for the L14-30 then having a couple of adapters to common outlet types made up and stored with the unit. Either that or wire up multiple cables off the military terminals so you can just pick and choose which you want to use for any situation. Most likely though...
Got the aluminum surge tank installed.
One thing to note, it is a little longer than the plastic one was. The hoses for the Red Dot aircon were at the wrong angle, and interfered with the new tank, not allowing it to sit where it is supposed to to be tightened down.
Fortunately the rest of my...
At least some of the NO.CO chargers seem to be aimed towards the boating/RV crowd for keeping the house batteries charged up. I know of very few boats/RVs with house batteries that don't also have some provision for charging the batteries in the vehicle while operating and not just when plugged...
So latest update, the vender apparently placed an order with the distributor, but 2 weeks later they're still backordered, as all current stock is going to the military or something like that.
They offered to take the tank back from me and will send me a shipping tag. Even if nothing else was...
Removed the red dot aircon from the truck bed and cab area, need to figure out whether it's safe to leave the compressor installed with the serpentine belt on it or if I should get a different belt until I'm ready to reinstall the rest of the system.
When removing a couple of the wires I saw a...
I thought it looked a little funny. Just installed windshields on my HMMWV, and the seal didn't look anything like that.
So now I have the windshield done, reverse circuit and working lights, tailgate, license plate bracket and light, and been crawling around underneath it hitting all the...
I haven't had the issue in my HMMWV yet, but for other vehicles I'll run a dehumidifier in them to remove all the moisture that I can, then run an ozone generator to get rid of any leftover smells.
The HMMWV doesn't seal up as well as a civilian vehicle though, so might not work as well. Might...
Rules are guidelines, if you understand the reason why the rule exists then you can figure out what to do about it.
Chainbreaker just gave a few examples of very valid reasons for the rule against active auction links to exist.
China makes their own version of the HMMWV now, so while there isn't a huge civilian market for them, they already have all the tooling needed to make them, they just use very inferior materials to do so for our market.
160 is too cold. You've verified that it's staying at that temp using the laser probe temp sensor and not just a gauge error.
The TM says it should be 170-200 during normal operation, if it's below that under a load, then something isn't right, so get a new thermostat and gasket installed and...
Oh, and if you have 24 bolt rims you should have radial tires, not bias ply. Bias ply were on the 8 bolt rims, and ran low pressure, around 20 to 25psi. 12 and 24 bolt rims run radials, and can be either 50 (12 bolt) or 65 (24 bolt) PSI depending on the actual tire installed on them.
You still need some type of bead lock, the 16.5 inch tire/rim aren't designed to run without it. Not safe to do.
You can do a google search to find replacement bead locks, someone out there cuts them out of PVC pipe.
Okay, I expected them to be more of a ridge/ring that bulges out but starts out smaller in order to more easily get the hoses on, the flare makes it seem like fitting a hose on there would be pretty difficult. Flare portion is .550 inches, the flat portion is .400 inches diameter.
Have you...
Without knowing the exact specs of the heat pump it's kind of hard to give an exact answer, but most likely you'll need the 803 as a run of the mill 4 ton heat pump is going to be minimum 26 amps and max of 40-45 amps surge on 208/240VAC. The two freezers, fridge, lights and TV are almost...
The vender got back to me, asked me for some pictures, and now they said they're talking to their AMG purchasing/engineers to figure out what's going on, so they aren't just blowing me off and seem to be taking this seriously. They sent me a picture of a new one in stock, and yeah, the top...
I looked a little closer at some of the seams. The plastic they made it out of seems to be as much bubbles as it is plastic, and some really big bubbles (comparatively) at the seams does not inspire confidence.
I did message the seller and ask them about it, that they claim they only sell the...
So ordered a coolant surge tank from what seems like it would be a reliable source, not going to name them as not sure yet if it's legit or what's going on or if it's a fluke that they'll take care of, just wanted to ask here for those that have seen more of these than me if the replacement tank...
