My son Adrian returned from California a couple of days ago and we took a day off to pick up the six 395/85r20 tires at Daniels.
The 450 mile roundtrip resulted in six Goodyear Unisteel MV/T tires for possible use on the 8x8. They are "85" not "80" as advertised, so they are a bit taller than I...
Lance, it takes time to fill the tires because of the valves in the valve stems (Schrader valves).
I found that two can be filled as quickly as one. Just don't use any Schrader valves on the "splitter". The onboard air system will be the limiting factor.
Depends on the aspect ratio of the tire, 395 with 100% aspect ratio would be 52 inches in dia. 395/85 is 47.5 inches in dia and 395/80 is 45.75 in dia by calculation.
the 1100-20 is 42 inches in dia since it's a 100% aspect ratio tire as is the 14.00-20, which is 48 inches in dia by...
I'd like to know which zippered boots tear up so quickly. Got four of them from Memphis and they seem okay, has that good rubber smell and has the mil p/n in relief 8376530.
The 8x8 requires 4 ea, so I'm hoping they'll last....
There is no thermostat that turn it off in warm weather, it will run.
In cold weather or temps below approx 45°F, the fuel heater thermostat on the fuel valve will turn on to heat the fuel.
To know if you actually have fuel flow, you would have to remove the fuel valve and check the...
The oil is from piston "blowby" and comes from the fumes in the crankcase, It will be more when engine is running cold, but you'll always have some.
You can extend the breather tube with a short length of hose or add a crankcase breather filter.
An incorrect speedo adapter (located on the...
Pressurize the master cylinder to make the bleeding a snap (plenty of hits when you search the site).
The pressure rating of the hydraulic brake light switch is important, should be 3,000 psi or more, if the switch bursts, you'll have no brakes....to avoid, get the air pressure switch...
You need to check the speed rating first, most "tractor", grader tires etc are not rated for more than about 25 mph.....except maybe some super expensive Michelins...
Tickled by this thread, I decided to run the 10KW for a while.
It started and ran at a lower rpm in the beginning as if straining and then took off to governed speed. Judging from small pieces of paper towel flying around, there must have been a blockage somewhere (=mouse nest).
Need to clean...
After it gets hot enough, the "transfer" switch disconnects the igniter and the fan will run at its normal (non-starting) speed. The ticking could simply be expanding sheet metal.
Starting to shop for insurance for the 8x8 truck tractor....checked with Haggerty and they need it to be garaged..if so, the rate would be $124/year. Any commercial policy has to include the trailer and the rate then becomes astronomical (for me any way).
I'm only at the beginning of this, so...
The fuel burning heaters are calibrated for gasoline or diesel and if you have any experience with wick operated heaters or lamps in general, you know that fuel purity is essential, just look at some of the "Ultra pure" lamp oils (kerosene) sold in stores.
Dirty fuels will eventually make the...
