That was a terrific find. What a great restoration project. Well worth collecting and saving to present at displays etc, and to enjoy driving around the local vista when completed. I am so impressed with the siren light!. the whole thing is so original. (and desirable).
Enclosed a picture of my...
Well done. That is quite some tidy and aggressive looking truck. You will have a load of fun (and use)with it. Quite like the.."African safari" paintwork!. some pictures of the arrival, and the resultant inspection would be a great (further) post.
68.MPH!? Curious to know what tires you are running at the moment. Standard 1100 or 1200? It would seem you are running (quite!) a few revolutions OVER the engine destruction speed.
OK, then if you have the know how, go for it. My lad re-mapped my Renault Clio (1500cc turbo diesel) (I was rather reluctant! at the time) but now, wow, it has power I am astonished with..And it also now does..............86 MPG! you may not get quite that with your truck!..But..hey.

Be very cautious about re mapping engine management systems. Some ECUs MUST be removed from the vehicle before re programming. Is that the case with yours?
I can't quite fathom out why you need to extend The mudguards..(fenders) some pictures of what is causing concern, and the required "look"? would be helpful in getting a better idea of what you are trying to achieve.
Well the only thing you (they) should "measure" (check) is, Are the heads straight and parallel. Viz. Not Warped. If they are ok in this respect, that negates re-surfacing. (if it ain't bust..don't fix it logic).
Just start with the basic things (like) (1) check the filter, it might well be clogged. Unlikely the heater plugs would go out that quick. (2) could be the heater relay. On reflection, I would go for the filter before I did anything else. (as) It was running ok until it (slowed down?) stopped...
