Yeah, it cracked right down the middle of my weld. First weld I've ever had fail. It was a single-pass and I welded it downhill. Ground it out, burned in 3-passes uphill and put 1/2" plate gussets on both sides of the lunette-eye mount. It's overkill-to-the-max now.
That's very true. I had a recent experience with a trailer tongue that I modified (extended). I was lucky that I had a chance to fix it before it failed catastrophically.
I agree, the flat plates are almost definitely going to be the weak-link. Especially if/when the hitch is subjected to any serious side-loads. Using round of square tubes instead of those flat plates would make the whole assembly a LOT stronger, but I love the idea and it looks plenty strong...
I'm planning on putting one of your 12V alternators there too, so I've got to figure out where else I can mount a compressor. I've already mounted a giant RedDot condenser on the roof-rack over my cab and I've got the heat/AC unit mounted in my M109 box, so the compressor is really the last...
greenjeepster, most of the people posting are trying to be helpful. I can't even count the number of projects I've had to re-do because I overlooked something, or figured out a better way to do it, or someone else point out a problem that I hadn't considered. It's just the nature of 'improving'...
Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I'm planning on doing. I'll have a 5-ton PS pump by the end of this month, and then I'll start thinking about exactly how/where I want to mount one of those rams. Looks like caveman did a pretty nice job on your truck.
Yeah, I flipped my hubs because I was sure that I was going to single-out the truck, but hadn't decided what wheels/tires I was going to run. But now I'm having a hard time finding wheels, and I'm thinking that I might actually swap the hubs back to the stock dual configuration. Almost...
Thanks for posting Ken. So what's your take on adding an external wastegate to one of these engines? Waste-of-time/money?
I've only fired-up the engine in my driveway since re-installing my turbo, but I'll definitely let you know about the boost & EGT's once I get it back on the road. My...
Hmmm, maybe it's my misunderstanding. Is the only function of a BOV / wastegate to regulate the ultimate boost-pressure? I thought it helped to make the engine a little bit more free-revving, but my knowledge of turbo systems is pretty limited...
Any of the turbo experts care to weigh-in on...
I'm making plans to go pick up an LDS for Mah Deuce later this month. I don't think this new engine has a wastegate turbo on it, and I've got a brand new D-series turbo that Ken ported for me. So unless I want to add a wastegate turbo, the LDS is a straight bolt-in? This just reminded me that I...
