Ken, would you mind telling us what might cost to have you work over our turbos? Or maybe you could send me a PM?
I was looking at some other turbo-related threads and noticed that the LDS engines used a different turbo that has a waste-gate. What's the deal with that turbo? I'd like to do a...
So there are gaskets that I'll need to replace? By the way, I think I already mentioned this, but it's is a D-series turbo.
Yeah, I've heard that (about rags). Impressive. I'm mostly worried about them melting and gumming things up. Kinda leading towards taking the housing off. Maybe taking a...
Just made a cross-post looking for a turbo-nerd. I know there are some really good turbo tuners here in the bay area, but I'd like to talk to somebody that's familiar with the application.
Yeah, I think I had the same problem. I found out that my pickup hose had a big hole in it from rubbing against the quick-release lever on the mounting bracket.
In another thread, ken posted something about porting turbos,
...but he didn't elaborate on that. In all the searching I've done online, I've only een able to find advice about porting turbos that are specific to different vehicles; suggesting that what works for one application might not be...
That's a good idea. I'll look into this tomorrow. Have a feeling I'm going to take it apart though, just for peace-of-mind. Which, uh, TM and I going to need?
No, I'm not trying to dismiss anything you're saying. These are EXACTLY the type of answers I like. The only thing I don't want to hear when I ask a question is, 'I dunno, but it works for me'. I'll take technical information and anecdotal experience any day. I like having enough information to...
Both, unfortunately...
Would I need to order any gaskets or anything? I've got to order new gaskets to install the turbo anyway.
Yeah, I've tried compressed air and a shop vac.
Think so? Would YOU run it? I'm just going to feel kinda dumb if I get melted pellet goo throwing my turbine...
I traded my C-series turbo for a D-series turbo, and the D-series turbo looks like it's in great shape - EXCEPT that the box was filled with packing pellets and a bunch of them are now stuck inside the turbo. I picked out as many as I could, and I've tried blowing it out, but it still sounds...
Oh, thanks. I guess that makes sense. I dug through a bunch of old threads last night and thought I read something about it being OK to use an alcohol evaporator with a heated air dryer.
Thanks Bjorn, but I was asking whether there's any reason why I shouldn't drill/tap a hole in the top part of the filter housing, so that the air compressor will get filtered air. I know the air compressor has it's own filter, but I'm just asking 'why not pull from the filtered side of the...
