Only has height adjustment. The engine hoist allows two axes of angular movement with minimal effort. Sure, you still must align the fore-aft and height, these are quite easy with good wheels on the hoist.
Still, it is best to have a helping hand. We whipped out two complete axle services in...
I've found an engine hoist works better. Use a short chain on the boom tip. Run a 3/8" bar through the windows in the rims, through the chain between the tires/wheels.. Then boom up, all weight is borne by the hoist and balanced nicely in a single point lift.
Because of the balance...
Sweet. That is easily servicable layout. We have to repair as much as possible in this avocation, spares can be pricey.
Now I do have access to an oscilloscope but no bridge. I might be able to kludge together a testing apparatus for capacitors. Of course that would require component...
Capacitors can dry up or more commonly, bulge. Either way, they lose capacity . Really, think of them as surge chambers. Piece of cake to replace all, it takes too long to test each one.
Other things are pots burning the wiper contact area. Also easy to test.
But testing the...
When you run over the rated load, the load meter will reflect this. Just watch the frequency meter to make sure you are in the 59-61 Hz range. I wouldn't run over rated load at the extreme temperatures, the magnetics (iron) will handle it, the copper is the problem as its resistance increases...
Always check voltage to ground before using. Yes, when you ground the middle leg of 240-3 wire, you still have 240 volts over the other two legs and 120 volts to ground.
That is how 240 works, it should be the same with your generator set. This is a safety issue, there is never any more...
The American Bosch injection system uses a single plunger which supplies fuel to all injectors through a distributor. The modulation of the injected quantity (IQ) is determined by a collar which closely fits the plunger. In this injection pump, the plunger and collar are oriented vertically...
And it looks like you will also need the copper washer gaskets. Take the old one to NAPA and have them size fit for the application. Check for pitting/corrosion on the fittings and spot facing on the wheel cylinder.
Age = experience. I gracefully exited the US Army before DADT was enacted. So yes, I am a bit older. And I can certainly say many of the 63Bs I worked with used the chisel method to loosen the 3" octagon bearing nuts. Not nearly as FUBARed as the federal supply system being flooded with...
Just to illustrate how much work went into this restoration, I purchased two pounds of welding filler rod, 1/16" diameter (ER70S2) and two pounds of 0.023" wire (ER70S6). I have less than a dozen left out of the 64 filler rods. And used a good bit of the fine wire too. Ok, some of that went...
One little note on wheel cylinders..the Federal Supply System is flooded with inferior wheel cylinders for these trucks. They work fine for braking but fail in storage.
The root cause is the lack of piston cup expanders on the springs. This means the piston cups will eventually leak if the...
You got a cylinder of C25 with it too? You might have to go through their gas supplier. Not a real issue, they probably got package deals.
They are easy to learn and great for auto body, just keep the welds short. As in spot short, then let the metal cool or quench with damp towel. Either...
The system voltage is much lower than the voltage created when the points break, causing a collapse in the magnetic field in the coil. This back electromotive force can be several hundred times the system voltage. This would cause arcing over the points, the condenser "absorbs" this energy...
When running in 3 phase, you have 208 volts between phases and 120 volts to ground from each phase.
When running in single phase, two wire 120 volts, the windings are paralleled in a high leg delta, the load is balanced over L1 and L3.
In single phase, 240 volts, L1 and L3 are again the load...
Frequency is dependent on the RPM of the engine which is dependent on the governor and engine reacting to the increased torque from varying demands.
Being purely mechanical control system, it balances centrifugal force against a spring force, much like any mechanical injection diesel. Put a...
That looks like a Carry On brand 4'x6' trailer that is carrying the MEP002A. I am interested in how that is working as I am modifying my Carry On 5'x8' to do the same. Looks like you have additional supports under the generator skids. I was planning on welding 1-1/2" square tube under the main...
No, it isn't safe with the panel open BUT if you must, use insulated tools and rubber gloves. 120 volts is present on a few terminals.
As to load testing, you can do it at 2 and 3 wire single phase as well as 3 phase 4 wire connections. The field lighting sets are good for this, if you can...
This is the case. But also check the contacts to make sure they are on the same plane. The disk can angle a bit BUT when the two contacts are not on the same plane (height), the shorter one gets more arc wear.
You can always rotate the disk but definitely check the contact height. Dress down...
