Duh! The corrugations would never match if flipped .
I still need to source the snorkel elbow, cut the hole in the flange and weld up. I don't remember the diameter..
There is no need to solvent clean ferrous (steel) welds unless you have a seam or lap that could trap oil and there is oil in that lap. Even then, using a combination will not likely get all the oil out.
By far, acetone is best. All welders MUST realize they will start fires. Using a solvent...
Any phosphoric acid product is harmless fume wise. This includes Naval Jelly. Aside from eye irritation if directly contacting, it isn't harmful. Sure, it can irritate the skin, wash it off with Lava Soap. Lava Soap works great for neutralizing acids on skin.
Rust forms in layers, the tight...
MK is probably beat after this week's work and getting needed rest.
Aside from grit blasting rust, we have finished all body filler, a few welds in the skin and moving metal after using guide coat and long sanding. Then went on the body filler. Not bad, less than 2 quarts including the loss...
Did you try that hobby shop next to Northern Tool? I've never been in that store, lost my hobby fad after The Hobby Center closed.
I don't know if paints "bleed" but it is possible that the earlier layer has just darkened from age being over the original color. I know the paint on my car has...
We got the rest of the cab rust holes excised, patches fitted and welded! We also got the bed back patch bent with 1" flanges. Abused the poor $30 Harbor Freight sheet metal brake on that, it seems to have weathered this fine, although we did reinforce it with 1-1/2" square tube after pulling...
Patched two more areas of the cab, both rust-outs. Working slow as I prefer to have tiny gaps for fast welding. Mark with tape, excise with cut-off wheels, then use files to make the cuts straight. Test fit, mark and trim more. This is 2 hours of fitting and 10 minutes of welding.
Also...
Hydro means water. While most hydraulics use fluid other than water, the name stuck. My comment was a pun.
Water + iron + aluminum means corrosion. I just hope the MEP 002a I am getting is in better shape.
Tomorrow will be the B-pillar bottom patches and cab back. I have the tiny tungstens sharpened and will pack my long file to get the fit perfect on the back quarter round section.
Fitting the bed front patch will be an all-day event, even with the long file.
Ever hear of wet stacking? That is accumulation of unburned fuel in the exhaust. If the engine is shut down after wet stacking, such half-burned fuel can drain back through open exhaust valves, hydrolocking the engine.
Before you chalk this generator up as a total loss, take all four glow...
Fascinating. I was thinking this would also be great for those running off-grid yet wanting air conditioning. The MEP would only run when there is a call for AC or the battery bank driving the inverter (and rest of house) needs charging.
Far cleaner than any solvent. You aren't going to get metal cleaner with solvent. And if you are welding with GMAW/SMAW, as long as you aren't welding on greasy steel, you won't know the difference.
Flap wheel + wire brush is as good as it gets. I've worked in several shops on ASME/API...
I guess we cannot talk about the novel Great Expectations since the nanny censor edits out Delta India Charlie Kilo. The story of poor Pip will go without mention of the author, Charles ****ens :p
Oh well, that doesn't pertain to former military vehicles or M37s.
I am not worthy to carry water for James Doohan. All I gave my country is time, he gave a finger, even though from friendly fire.
I just like making stuff work. Eventually, this M37 will be First Sergeant acceptable.
Oh, did you hear? Those monster C-clamps work well in breaking beads...
This is a much larger compressor, also twin but parallel twin instead of 90 degree V. This makes the pump deliver two strokes every revolution, one every 180 degrees so there isn't any higher order harmonics. A 90 degree V twin does two strokes every revolution too, only they are 90 degrees...
I'll take the ribbing, it is painless. The mild case of rhabdomyolysis from 104 F chainsawing not so much.
I'm getting the patch panel for the bed front done properly with both flanges brake folded. There is a bit of flash rust on the cold rolled 1018, it should brush out. Just need...
