Using my SEE for real work

Here's the difference between the old and the "new" fan. The latter has a drain, and the motor is larger. And I did make sure it runs before even removing it from the parts SEE. In retrospect, it might've been faster to swap in the entire left rear "fender assembly". It would've been costly...

Using my SEE for real work

Hey, just happened to come in after finally getting that darn fan out. Barely. Two of the four nuts became un-captive. Luckily it was the rear ones, so I could kind of reach around, but it still took about four hours. And I did start spraying them down yesterday. To make it even more...

Using my SEE for real work

Thanks for the reply! Didn't look like those nuts were captive, which is why I wasn't looking forward to that approach. The only other way that front fan may come out is if I move the hard return line out of the way. Optimistically loosened the fitting on top, and sure enough, the fluid wants...

Using my SEE for real work

Alright, yesterday I pulled what appears to be a relatively new fan off the parts SEE, to replace the dead front one on the SEE I use. It happened to be the rear one I pulled, and it came off with ease. The problem is getting the dead front one off. Easiest would be to move the hose reel out of...

Need new dashpad. Which brand has held up best?

Yeah, your steel option is definitely nicer. I usually put a piece of cardboard over the instrument panel to keep the sun from bleaching the gauges even more, from the back side. On the other hand, it was very easy to disconnect the irritating 4WD indicator light with no dash pad whatsoever.

Need new dashpad. Which brand has held up best?

My M1008 had the "steel option" when I got it, some 15 years ago, and still does. It's a working vehicle, so it doesn't bother me. Made it easy to add a switch for the dump bed, too, which it had in its first incarnation. The bed is since removed, and the frame shortened to make it a tug. Most...

    Yeah, even if it's Celsius.

Ouch. Wonder if that's negotiable? At least a little bit.

Need new dashpad. Which brand has held up best?

Since it's still run by the same guy, I'd think you'll get good service, too.

Need new dashpad. Which brand has held up best?

It was for a '76 GMC, so in that sense they should be quite comparable in cost. What that cost was, I haven't a clue. I must have asked, and may have included it in the story, but definitely can't remember that anymore. I do recall that the price was lower than I had expected, after seeing all...

Need new dashpad. Which brand has held up best?

Well, be sure to tell Irwin "Hi". Not that I think he'll remember me as I was there in the late 80s, possibly early 90s.

Where was I? Well, I try not to ask too much from my brain cell. Besides, I wanted to find out if your Dash Design was any good (just kidding).

Hey, that was easy...I remembered the name (Just Dashes) and they're still in business. 5941 Lemona Avenue Van Nuys, CA 91411 818 780-9005 Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 (PST)

Alright, I'll see if I can dig it up.

If you guys are interested, I can try to find out what the place I used is called. Did a magazine story on it, so I should be able to find it in the binders.

I had one done in the San Fernando Valley, in CA, but that was quite some time ago. Excellent result. I would imagine that there are still places that do such jobs.

Ouch! Makes having the stock dash rebuilt sound like a real bargain.

Got a chance to load the trailer today. I can almost guarantee that it'd been faster to pick these things up one by one with the tractor, and move them to a spot about a quarter mile away than it was to use the HMMH and trailer. Especially since the sketchy ramps used to cross the ditch had to...

And one of several I moved out of there. It's still legal do do so, but who knows for how long that'll last? On a lighter note, today's fun and games was to move some broken tree branches to the side of the ditch where I can get to them and put them in the dump trailer. Never imagined that an...

You're lucky. Just imagine if you'd lived in California. If so, you could've ended up in jail for possession of contraband. Although, the sunglasses might still be legal, even there.
