I believe you when you said you run the whole house without difficulty. I have an MEP003A which is 10KW and air cooled diesel. I have run my entire house on many occasions for many days at a time. My house is larger than yours. When I first received my MEP, I turned everything I could think...
Definitely try to save the batteries. Do not try to hit it with 10A right away. Use a NOCO or other AGM friendly battery charger and as you mentioned, parallel the battery with a good battery with the charger hooked up. I've had 100% success so far. In one case with an Odyssey battery, it...
DOT 3 and DOT 4 are miscible with water. DOT 5 is not. Take a small sample of what you have in your MC and add it to a cup of water. If it completely disappears, it is DOT 3 or 4. If it forms a definite separate layer, it is DOT 5 which is silicone based. As an aside, DOT 5 is only purple...
The correct filter for the MEP003A is FRAM CH6PL. At least that is what was in mine when received from the military. I've been buying them on E-bay real cheap. However, I've bought several on E-bay that didn't include the O-rings/seals. I currently have a case of them. They are quite easy...
During the recent storms that came through the Southeast we lost power for over 8 hours. The MEP003A fired right up and provided power for the whole house again. This genset was the best investment I've made for military surplus. I was very lucky because the day before the storms hit, I tried...
My wife hates my MEP003A as well. The MEP003A is much noisier than your MEP802A., but has proven to be very dependable. My wife says it stinks and is too noisy. She hates it with a passion until the power goes out in either the hot summer or in the winter cold. Then she loves it. However...
I use the Genius 7200. It handles 12 and 24 VDC as well as AGM and non-AGM batteries. You can see them at https://no.co/ . I also use solargizers as well. However, when there are leaves or snow covering the solargizer, there is zero output. I now have four Genius 7200 chargers for...
I recently purchased 12 NOS Champion glow plugs on Ebay for $10.00 each. I've seen other adverts on Ebay for the glow plugs at other times. I know Champion discontinued them in the past, but I don't know the current situation. That being said, I have never had to replace any glow plugs in my...
You are absolutely correct in that you can find some fantastic deals on high quality 3 phase power tools at auction. I have almost quit looking for single phase equipment for this reason. The vast majority of home owners don't have access to 3 phase power unless they install a converter.
One question I didn't see an answer for concerns whether or not being off-grid is a permanent thing or do you intend to go on-grid at some point in the future. This question should impact your decisions.
I am not off-grid, but I have an MEP003A that is trailer mounted. I have the single phase...
When starting the unit, you should leave the start switch in the start position until the oil pressure is up and the field is flashed. I usually hold mine in the start position for about 15-20 seconds. Mine flashes 100% of the time.
I had a rear crankshaft seal leak on another vehicle. After replacing the seal with a new one (Chinese), the leak was much worse. I replaced the seal again with an American made seal and no more leaks. Make sure you have a good quality seal, if the leak is indeed from the rear seal.
AGM batteries are great. You should use a battery charger that is designed to charge AGM batteries. I use a NOCO Genius Model 7200 which will handle various voltages, including 24, and also AGM. The battery charger automatically adjusts to the battery it is connected to regardless of voltage...
