Never advised. Bearings come as sets, the outer races are to be replaced with the caged inner race and rollers.
The outer races are not hard to remove, just a brass drift and a good hammer. It is a press fit, using a hydraulic press to install the new ones isn't needed either. It can be done...
With the incredibly high compression ratio and using diesel fuel, the LDT should be fine into the teens. The only sticking point is the lack of glow plugs.
The bearing and brake workover is well worth $500 in just the safety aspect.
Lube of the chassis with a good work-over on steering, suspension and driveline is worth another $500.
Not to get into a theological debate...man invented buckets ;-). Spot on with the coolant recovery, it should be reused unless rusty, oily or dirty. And there are plenty of drains where one can safely lower the coolant level with nary a spill.
Stock core plugs are pressed in steel. They are not designed to protect the block, they are only there to support the cores during casting, also providing access to remove the thermally decomposed cores.
The easiest method to remove them is a slide hammer. Drill a hole in the middle, thread...
Back in the day....we would THROW bearings into the 5 gallon buckets of GAA. It worked, eventually.
The problem with most bearing packers is they use a grease gun and there is a considerable void volume of grease which is "wasted". Not an issue if you are willing to reload the grease gun or...
Collapse of the compressor inlet could cause damage but you would have the issue of the turbine being starved. Unless it is a variable vane turbine, this is unlikely to happen.
I've blown compressor outlet hose connections...loud noise, dust everywhere but turbo/compressor was never damaged...
Turbochargers won't overspeed if the outlet blows because that increases the mass flow, slowing the wheel down. Sounds backwards but it is true. What is really hard on a turbocharger is stall, this happens when the compressor outlet is suddenly choked off. The momentum in the...
Well, I will pick up the correct ones and bring them down next trip, OK?
The copper is soft so drilling may not work as it is hard to hold. However, a taper reamer or Dremel with abrasive bit should work. Deburr as needed.
The key installation note is keep the surfaces clean.
Usually, when facing the battery box, the leftmost terminal is negative while the right (forward) terminal is positive.
Get a voltmeter. Too cheap not to have.
I will check locally for Tex. The bleeders are fine, they were filled with junk but cleared out just fine. In my haste, I might have reversed the gaskets . I usually get away with flipping them so the ringed sides are against the flat surfaces (bolt and wheel cylinder). But any dirt...
On Disco-Very (Discovery) Channel. Going to build a huge corn-picker and cooker, looks like an M35A2.
Just a heads-up for Deuce Sighting...
First technical mistake...calling the harvesting machine a "combine". It isn't, it is a CORN PICKER. Combines combine the picking and threshing...
Studs are simple to replace. Definitely do it, making sure you get the correct ones for the side.
The boot? Only if you have the knuckle torn down should you consider a seamless. The zipper boot functions correctly, keeping dirt out. If a bit of leak bothers you, just smear silicone sealant...
Georgia? I could be tempted to take a road trip . Like Cesar Milan, I rehabilitate Deuces and train owners.
Most of the time, the missing brake fluid leaked past the wheel cylinder cups because the spring inside the wheel cylinders was cylindrical without any cup expanders on the ends...
Step 1 is inspection. Check brake fluid. Should be DOT 5 silicone. Check each wheel for brake fluid, if leaking, it will come out of the slot on the backing plate. If leaking, wheel MUST come off.
Step 2 is bleeding. Pressure bleeding using the improvised (~$30 in parts) or commercial...
If you can swing the airfare for me and my tools (~150 pounds of tools), I'm willing to help. I don't charge much...a brake system fix? I would recommend pulling all 6 wheels, checking shoes and cylinders, repacking all 12 bearings, overhauling each wheel cylinder, inspecting brake lines and...
