I'm assuming you are talking about the injection pump / hydraulic head. What were the symptoms that led you to believe it had failed? Very nice looking deuce by the way.
The reason some of the auto makers continued to use 6V coils with a ballast resistor was to create a hotter spark during starting. The resistor was bypassed when starting, providing 12V to the coil. When the key was returned to the run position, the ballast resistor cut the voltage to 6V.
Congratulations on successfully troubleshooting the errant deuce. It's almost always something simple, but finding that simple cause can be difficult. The winch looks good!
I'm glad you got your genset working again. Thanks for posting your results, which can definitely help others with similar problems. I previously had a similar issue with my MEP003A with high voltage, but my problem turned out to be a bad regulator. I purchased a used regulator, but also...
Don't try bench testing the pumps using a 24 VDC battery charger. I made that mistake years ago. The pumps simply buzzed and wouldn't pump, but when hooked to the batteries they worked fine.
I'm sorry to hear about your wife. If the batteries are good, it's amazing how a deuce will fire right up after sitting a long time. I was told that my A2 had been sitting for over six months without being started when I recovered it. As you mentioned, the engine spun fast and fired right up...
I would advise looking at the Fram filters before purchase if you are picking them up at an auto parts store. The last ones I purchased for my MEP003A had the following problems.
1. Oil filter cartridge partially crushed
2. First fuel filter gasket severely crimped
3. Second fuel filter...
David Clarke is a fantastic company for customer service as well as making an excellent product. I sent them a 35 year old aviation headset a few years ago that was in pitiful shape. They reconditioned the headset making it look new and only charged $45.00 with free shipping. They replaced...
David Clarke makes excellent aviation headsets. Assuming these are aviation headsets, I would recommend a portable Sigtronics Transcom II intercom unit for small aircraft. I have used one for almost 20 years with zero problems. They are available from many aircraft accessory suppliers. I...
If the truck has been sitting over 10 years, the fuel tank has likely got nasty stuff in it, as well as the fuel lines and filters. If it was me, I would flush out the tank and lines and change the fuel filters prior to starting. I would also change the oil and oil filters just to make sure...
I agree with Gimp. Sounds like water in the fuel. Park the truck level and drain some fuel out of the tank. Any water will be on the bottom of the tank. As Gimp suggested, drain the filters as well. If there is water in the tank, it will be on the bottom and sloshing around as you drive and...
Have you changed the oil and filters yet? If not, you have no idea what is in the crankcase. The oil could also potentially be contaminated with diesel fuel.
