Well 319, now that you clued me on to it, I guess I gotta go! I've mainly been lurking in the deuce forums, hadn't even thought to look over here at stuff. I do need a few odds n ends, so maybe I'll find some deals. I gotta root through my stuff a see what I can get rid of too.
Wish I had known about this, I wouldv'e stopped up even though my deuce isn't road worthy yet. It would be nice to meet more MV owners. I'm only 50 minutes away. I've been up that way quite a bit, family owns some land up by Sparta. Will this event be happening next year?
Um, so exactly what is the question you want to get an opinion on?? Are asking if you should keep one and sell one? As for manufacturers, the trailers should be built to military specs so they should be pretty much the same in quality.
A come along is okay for maybe a Hummer, CUCV or trailer. Most have a max. of 1 or 2 tons, so I'd be leary of using it for a duece or larger truck unless I was loading from a dock or something without much of an incline.
Chain hoists work okay for pulling something up on trailers. I've just found that a lot of times it's tedious because they tend to jam when used horizontally because the chain won't feed right. If you have a helper to keep the slack out it feeds okay.
I think I'd like to add a winch to my truck, but I don't like the idea of spending as much buying all the parts for a OE winch for about what I could buy the whole truck for. I have some 6" C-channel that will fit in the frame nicely, I'm thinking of extending the bumper using that and some...
As your tank gets lower on a duece, the fuel can slosh around easier, moving any dirt that has settled on the bottom. This would mean that dirt has more chance of getting sucked up as you go through a tank normally, not just when you get down to the bottom. With that in mind, it's a good idea...
The TM's address classes of leaks in the PMCS section. In general if it's weeping or slight seepage of oil, it's no big deal. As long as it doesn't form drops, it can wait. You shouldn't have any leakage from the brake lines though.
If it's just to prevent pressure build up, height or lenth shouldn't matter. I'd think rerouting it into the intake side would be better as there could be some gases in the tube that would possibly add a smidge of power. Seems like venting it to the exhaust side could possibly add a bit more...
It's PMCS- Preventive Maintenance Checks (and) Services. It means checking your vehicle before, during, and after use, ie; the exact opposite of what my wife does with the car.
It's your time, so it depends on what your time is worth. If' you don't have a lot on your calendar, might be a good deal. The one BIG thing I'd have a concern with is if you get hurt on the job. There may be liability issues and insurance issues for the MV owner, and issues for you if you...
I don't think it's a bad place to mount a towbar, I just think you've got too many bars up front. That's where we put them in Iraq, and they worked fine. And they are MUCH heavier towbars for the MRAPS. (70,000#'s plus) I'd move the towbar on top to where the black tubes are, and maybe move...
