Deuce Arctic Heater Info Compilation Thread

Ethan, why don't you plan a trip to my place, I'm only a couple of hours away and I can show the projects you are working on as installed on my vehicles, the HIAB, the alcohol evaporator, the fuel burning heater etc... I'm here most of the time generally speaking. Do a mapquest for zip 24120.

    tatra 813 new owner

Thanks for posting this kind of information, it says more about the vehicle than one hundred pictures of it climbing hills and crossing ditches! It explains the desire for an automatic transmission when driving off road, my 757 got the six speed small increment auto tranny for that exact reason...

    Got smoke?

Re: RE: Got smoke? What it needs is a good road run. It spent its life mostly at idle at the field artillery school (Ft Sill, OK) and now hasn't been driven for a decade. A highway drive should "clean its pipes". It comes up in temp faster than the deuce and was at 160 °F when shut down after...

Deuce Arctic Heater Info Compilation Thread

Good purchase Ethan. That heater is shown in my 8x8 manual with a separate pump to circulate the coolant (image below). You need a controller with a 5-pin connector on the back plus a separate lead, which goes to 24 vdc.

    Got smoke?

Did some testing again today and drove the 757 up and down the driveway a few times. It smokes a bit when loaded down, but sounds great. :-) My daughter even tried it.

    LDS 465 205 H.P

No seal for the FDC, apparently metal to metal seal with honed surfaces. The thermostat begins to open at 180°F and is fully open at 190 or so. These engine rarily runs above 185. The engines are pretty efficient as is the cooling system.... Best way to clear up the smoke is to take the truck on...

    Exhaust pipe clamp needed

This is how the clamp is listed (ignore the check mark).

    LDS 465 205 H.P

If the compensator is not leaking fuel into the crankcase, there is no need to bypass it. Its function is to adjust the fuel delivery based on its viscosity (=BTU value) so that the engine power output remains the same for a given position of the "gas" pedal. It has nothing to do with the...

    Exhaust pipe clamp needed

I need a clamp fabricated (can't find an original) and if any of you have the facilities to make one, please give me a quote. Engine exhaust pipe is 3-1/2 inches and the heater exhaust is 1-1/2 inches in diameter. The holes are 3/8 dia. TIA

    M35 oil pressure and idle

I think "idle speed" is defined as the engine rpm without throttle engaged, but you are correct, run at higher rpm after first five minutes of idle.

I think he means the crankcase breather tube, which is where the MC is vented, just a guess....

The "smoke cam" angle is different for the N/A engine, never figured out how much of a difference it would make.....

    Jumping a "Deuce"

For size 2 cable you will drop 2 volts with a 500 amp draw at 50 ft.....I think I did it right. That's with perfect connections. I suppose that's not much to worry about, but it all adds up. BTW the slave cable connectors are only rated at 245 amps, so on a cold winter day, it is important to...

    Involuntary starter run

RE: I found the source of the problem! A battery which isn't fully charged will lower the cranking voltage and increase the current in proportion. To reduce chance of burning up relay/solenoid contacts, make sure the batteries are in top condition and connections done right.

List of mods I have completed on my deuce

Believe it or not David, I think most mods are beneficial and it boils down to cost, it takes me forever with the current budget I wouldn't do the brake thing on the 8x8....some things were done from factory on the 8x8, things that were "reinvented" by yours truly, including such a small detail...
