Wonder if ability to start without starting aids is a sign of engine combustion efficiency....
What other engine has a compression ratio of 22:1?
I thought Tom had a Cat in his deuce.....
Re: Clamps
May have something to do with material compatibility for minimizing corrosive action, battery post to clamp to tin-plated lug....
Component parts appear to have been selected for a current draw of 250 to 300 amps max, that is the rating for the cable, slave connector and possibly...
I have a coule of instrument panel overlays that were anodized and dyed black at one time. I'd like to paint them and relabel the knobs and lights, what is a good procedure for prepairing the surface for paint?
TIA
RE: Re: 2.5T, 5T, what do I need?
A 2-1/2 ton tractor (won't have the Cummins, but) with a trailer would be choice IMHO.
Kenny has one for sale, post above.
A 5-ton has the capacity to haul 20,000 lb and with the bed over 4ft up it would be impractical as all getout. A LWB 5-ton will have an...
Clamping a wire is nowhere near to compare to a properly done crimp or solder connection. Strands will separate and corrode. Perhaps it's a good thing that they are not available. :-)
This should be of general interest, the matching of battery terminals to cable lug to cable.
Note how the 1/0 cable is connected to the battery clamp, it's tin plated and the opening in the lug is 3/8, like the bolt in the clamp and the outside dia matches the outside of the barrel of the...
The hose will swivel until the very last fraction of the turn, should be tight when fitting is tight.
If you can get a 9/16 wrench on the gauge side to hold it, perhaps you can break the fitting loose....
Mike I'll check one of my spare pumps and get back with you. Another was shipped this morning and should be in your hands next week. There should be very little spring to it when you replace the head, the cam should be in its low position unless the timing is off...I say again, unless the timing...
Noticed you pointing out that the deuce is at idle, thus smoking, while operating the crane.
It will feel much better at a higher rpm, say 1,200-1,400 and won't smoke.
Compare images below (cranetruck running on a mix of diesel and WVO).
What are you building, a bombshelter? :-)
On the next one, perhaps the PVC can be burnt out so as not to ruin the threads....or some solvent that will soften it..
Or simply keep the PVC fitting for a test of the pump, at least...
Best fit, I guess.....we don't have a "German vehicles" other than Unimogs....call on the moderators agian to fix it.
Perhaps Unimogs should be changed to "German vehicles", Volvo to "Swedish vehicles" etc....
Like ACE says, test it while on the vehicle and mesure the voltage at the batteries, there is a direct connection. Also the bat/gen gauge is directly wired to the battery (although, the ground runs through the chassis).
The gauges on your deuce are pretty accurate when hooked up correctly (see...
Beautiful work man! You are right, they put out a lot of light, soft and nice to work under at night.
Your dash is going to rival mine one of these days, except your finishing work is better. :-)
You may want to start by studying this diagram, checking the numbers on the wires. Never mind the "Protective control box" and the battery 4-pack setup, it's for the 5-tonners.
