If you know this already, I apologize. Never let the MEP-003A idle. It will damage the voltage regulator. When you shut down, shut it down at operating RPM. When you start it it will come up to the proper RPM.
Just because they are not painted tan doesn't mean that the unit didn't go to Iraq or Afghanistan. My M116A2 mounted MEP-003A genset looked very good when I got it, painted in 3-color camo CARC. The insides of all electrical boxes and tool box were full of sand. My genset had been based in...
I don't know if it really helps or not, but when I remove my batteries for cleaning, I always install the batteries in the alternate position. I have had zero problems with the U6TLs that came in my M35A2 and M35A3 trucks. I don't use a bettery tender on either, but the A3 came with a...
Welcome to Steel Soldiers! I'll ve visiting Melbourne, and possibly Adelaide, in late June. I agree with the guys telling you to get an M35A2 from somewhere in the western US. Once you identify a truck you can likely get some Steel Soldiers to check it out for you prior to a deal being...
There have been several posts on SS discussing the slower operating speed of the M35A3 vs the M35A2, the limiting factor being the CAT 3116 engines. I personally limit my A3 to 45 mph for most driving and 2500 RPM. Others have admitted to running their CAT 3116 engines at significantly higher...
Nice looking truck! The winch is the same as an A2 winch but is powered by a hydraulic pump, not a PTO. If you wanted a winch, I would have recommended that you source a winch truck.
The problem I've seen with wet-stacking in a Deuce is that you don't really realize it is happening. All the fuel/crud is building up and you don't know it while it's idling. Then when you hit the accelerator to drive it, a lot of **** blows out all over your truck and whoever is standing...
If you look at the brass tube that feeds air to the tire from the CTIS, it terminates through a hole in the wheel. You can see the grommet in the photo between the brass nut and the valve stem. They are supposed to be torqued at 45 - 60 Lb- Ft, but are commonly found finger tight with dry-rotted...
That is one nice looking A3! I see you also have the fiberglass hood. Mine has the crappy riveted hood - I'm jealout. Are you going to take it back camo or leave it green?
I had a deuce in the Army 1970-71. Mine had OD semi-gloss paint on the engine, same color as the body. I also drove an M715 and it was also the same color on the engine. My current 1969 Kaiser Jeep deuce is also the same color on the engine.
