I don't have enough experience except with recovery and a certain sub-contractor to be of much use.
It prevents the soft top from sagging onto your head. It also provides a mounting point for speakers for the radio set to get them off the transmission hump.
The best way that I've seen it, without doing a bunch of custom work, is to slide it in from the c-pillar support towards the front...

As far as your markings... 204th Does come up as a medical Battalion, also as a support Battalion, possible history went either way. I'm guessing the 47 is for a medical group or a BN...
It's more than likely modified. The military would have no reason for a trailer like this as a *standard* item. If we tow it, it's either towed by a wrecker or put onto a heavier style trailer to be hauled. It could be a COTS trailer, but not a normal item.
The ACH will provide some protection. No, not as much as hard hat or other OSHA type, but better than nothing. That being said, on Bragg the policy for helmets only exists west of Gruber, or past range control.
Look at the HMMWV forums, there's the same discussion happening there. The paint is (...should) the same for the vehicles, so if it works on a HMMWV, it'll work on the FMTVs
Too Far south, but the National Corvette Museum is pretty cool. Louisville has the Louisville slugger plant right downtown, great gift shop and such if you're into baseball. If you're into motorcycles, you can hit milwaukee for the Harley Davidson museum and plant... but watch out for Chicago...
Army used Rank and last name in the windshield, painted or (much more commonly) stickers. sometimes a call sign would be centered between the two windows (word on one and number on the other)
before you do this, please read up on the hazards associated with blasting/sanding CARC. It is very bad to inhale.
as for a clear flat... never heard of it. You can find places to paint CARC, or see our threads about Behr paint and you can get it to match and "re-color" your truck.
One thing (for everyone) if you roll your sides or back like this, and are going to leave it... roll it so that rain/condensation does not pool inside the roll. in this case, if you reverse the roll, IE, roll "in" instead of "out" you'll be good. Had problems with this on Bragg. Attempted...
