So Tom, if you are correct, what would have to be improved for the engine to "take" 2,600 rpm indefinetly?
Thanks Jim, for posting the info, which must have required some research.
You know I do, Joel. :-)
Thanks Adam!
PS. I never liked that image, because it doesn't look like its moving. I do have a video (Vintage Video) showing it moving in the water with a full load and that's about the right waterline. The cab cover should be off and the driver should have a...
Don't know. Truck was designed/built by Ford Motor Co. Only about 500 built and all in the late sixties.
It's not a cab over in the normal sense, the cab does not tilt. Engine access is as shown here and the cab is waterproof, all aluminum, welded, riveted and/or glued with waterproof...
Let me know if you are getting tired of these posts...anyway, checked the toe-in and tracking of the four front wheels/axles and it all checks out within the 1/8 inch of measurement error at this time. Perhaps the good results have something to do with the fact that the vehicle came from a...
I had a set a couple of years ago and sold them to Blake (Virginia Beach area). He has been selling off some of his stuff and may be willing to part with them if he still has them.
Take a sample of the oil and have it analyzed (NAPA, Catepillar kits for example).
I have had a small knock for a couple of years, but was aggrevated by a fuel leak into the engine oil, which reduced the viscosity and oil pressure and caused accelerated bearing wear, all which showed up on the...
If you can fix the air problem easily, drive it with a chase car. Make frequent stops on the way to check tires etc.
When I took delivery of my M49A2C, one of the rear tires was gashed. In desperation (had no lug nut wrench), I used a utility knife and cut the rubber off the wheel and drove it...
The manual lists 16 ft as maximum reach.
For educational purposes, , here are the illustrations from the 1965 manual.
Whoever did the mod did a good job at making it look original. To manually extend something that heavy would surely require two people, I would geuss.
I have driven both the I-81 and I-77 with a loaded deuce and trailer. No problems.
If you head South on I-77 from I-81 you will be going down the mountain into North Carolina. It is a fairly straight run, about 6 miles or so and you can maintain a good speed of 50 mph and wont need to use the...
Posted one of the above images of the 757 on the pershingmissile forum and one of the responses was:
"wow !!!
This pic of the 757 sure takes me back to Gmuend and 71-73. I
wasn't in Germany a week before I walked into an open door of a 757
and got cold cocked. (Before another week went by a...
Check out the last image in the "wrecker album", it may help some.

Reason #1: The designers never intended them to be mounted on the bumper. The pods on the bumper was a later mod and probably because of the low original location causing a dark area just forward of the bumper when the winch was installed. A couple of extra lights below the bumper can cure that...
Mounted (temporarily) two of the front tires this morning so that I could check the toe-in.
For a 5-ton, the tires are suprisingly easy to handle, even for one person. Used the "shovel method" to lift them in place.
Moments above 200°F are few and far between on my deuce. Loaded with lumber a couple of years ago, I was going up Black Mountain on I-40W in North Carolina and the temp hit 205 degrees and that was with my plywood radiator cover installed.
Empty flat out, it stays around 175 to 185.
