Really, Really, Really Stupid! I had a good friend when I was in the Army that was in an M114A1E1 that flipped. Almost cut him in two. Disgusting to treat that equipment like that., also.
I have an MEP-003A GenSet and although I have let it run for extended times with minimal load, I have not had it wet stack yet. However, my Deuce will definitely wet stack if left idling for extended times and my John Deere 5520 (89 HP) tractor will wet stack very easily if left running at...
I have a Deuce with an original convoy light still mounted. It is currently pouring down rain, but as soon as it stops I'll go out and take the measurements for you. I can't tell you the extended height because it is rusted in place in the down position and I have been too lazy to fix it.
Using bias tubes in radial tires will eventually result in a blowout for the previously mentioned reasons - just a matter of time. You should change them!
I keep two 60-watt bulbs in my well house to keep it from freezing in the winter. Before the incandescents disappear, I plan to buy several cases of incandescent bulbs for future use.
The coldest I have started my MEP-003A GenSet was 17 degrees. It seemed to start just as easy as if it was...
It is impossible to use tubeless tires of any type with split rims. There is nothing wrong with using radial tires with split rims, but they must have tubes. You will find that your radials have tubes.
I'm always amazed when I see people winching, snatch block or not, and everyone is standing around the winch cable. Or when towing via cable - same thing. I try to use chain as much as I can, and like Rizzo said, use 2 or 3 loops of chain to secure a snatch block. Winching or using tow cables...
I feel your pain. I'm going to bid on a second deuce. The problem is that both are good and I won't want to get rid of either if I win the bidding. Fortunately I have a place to keep them. My problem is keeping my wife happy.
The original trucks were OD with the registration number on each side of the hood. This was later discontinued with CAMO paint. Many deuces have the registration number stenciled on the inside of the doors. You can also look on the data plate which should have the VIN and registration. Make...
Welcome to Steel Soldiers.
CCKWs have been powered by 228, 248, 256, 270 and 302 CID gassers in the U.S. military. This doesn't mean that other countries haven't put diesels in them - I would wager that many gassers have been replaced by diesels over the years. There were a lot of CCKWs...
One thing I forgot to mention concerning UMO. When I was growing up, we didn't have a lot of money and my Dad took UMO, filtered it, and then used it again, sometimes adding a percentage of new high viscosity oil to bring the viscosity back up. He filtered it slowly, letting it drip through an...
I know these are multi-fuels, but when I was in the Army in the early 70s, we were warned about burning straight MO gas. We were only authorized to use it in an emergency and then if possible to cut it 50% with diesel to prevent damage to the injectors. The only lubrication the injectors get...
NHDIESEL,
Are you certain that your front brakes aren't dragging? Also, I'm not sure if you have a winch or not, but a winch will add a lot of weight hanging out front, further taking weight off your rear tires. I really think there is something wrong with the truck, not the tires. Those...
If you have the registration number, the last digits are the year. On most Deuces, the registration # is also printed on the inside of the door. Make sure you use the VIN number only. The registration number is not part of the VIN.
