The VIN number should be 9 digits and should be stamped on the drivers side frame rail. It is usually covered by undercoating which will need to be scraped off. On mine I needed a magnifying glass to see the digits, but I've seen them stamped much deeper on other deuces. I'm assuming here...
This won't work on CARC, but when I was in the Army in the early 70s, we used to mix a little diesel fuel with the OD semi-gloss and it would make the paint very shiny. This was more popular on MUTTs than on Deuces though.
If you stay in the motel at the park try to get a room with a view of the ship. It's a very good view from the motel, and you can walk from the motel to the partk. I routinely stay there while on business in Mobile.
You are better off with a thin-window G-M meter. This will pick up both beta and gamma, even at low energy levels. I would not recommend one of the CD units. Most take obsolete batteries, although some of the newer ones do accept modern batteries, and are difficult to get repaired. If you...
Why convert to 12 volt? Why not keep it 24 volt and original? I drove am M715 for a while in the army in 1970 in Germany. I could have used that heater! It was COLD in the winter.
M116A3 trailers tow great. I've pulled mine several hundred miles with no issues. I use magnetic lights and as mentioned previously, the magnets won't always hold them. When I use the magnetic lights I always take a bunch of 12" wire ties to hold the lights, light wiring harness, etc. I also...
I have previewed many MEP-003A and MEP-002A gensets. at several locations. Be very careful when you see low hours and especially zero hours on the Hobbs. Many of the gensets with zero or low hours obviously had many more hours on them based on poor condition. I've also seen handwritten notes...
There are a lot of threads on oil for the deuce if you go to Search. I run John Deere +50 in my deuce as well as my two tractors and I find it works well, even in cold weather.
I have a 1968 Johnson M105A2 with the single air line. The brake system is simple, and the trailer works well. I pull it behind my deuce, and occasionally behind my Ford pickup. The M105A2 is the best pulling trailer I have ever pulled.
I'm probably going to wait 2 -3 weeks, until the weather warms up here. I have power supplies and test equipment, so that won't be a problem. I'm still in the process of wiring up the transfer switch and running the conduit to where the genset will be stationed. The 400-amp 4-pole manual...
I would recommend bidding on another GL deuce - one that appears to be in good condition. Sell your old deuce as a parts truck, or part it out yourself, to offset the cost of the new deuce. If you have the room and inclination, parting out the old deuce may actually give you a profit on the...
