The truck was built by Ford, "Tractor Division", so probably the chassis portion also.
Yes, I drilled the 1/8" holes in the caps to access the balls directly.
After nine days of soaking the tierod ends in CLP and "Heat Valve Lubricant" without any significant change, I'm now beginning a search for commercial replacements.
The stud part seems to have metric threads (24 mm, in this case), is metric standard for these parts?
A few images of my pipeline bed. It's very sturdy and solidly built, note the "block anchor" in the first two pictures, which may be hard to find along with some of the other BII's.
If the bed has its own tags, it's probably an early model. The bed, complete with winch, toolbox etc, was made to be swapped with a cargo bed when needed.
Mine has its own tags and made by Metro Engr, date is Feb 1960. Later models were factory assembled, bed plus deuce.
Question: Does the...
My response above was for the front (steering) axle.
Tire matching is only important on dry hard pavement.
To put it simply, for the bogie on the deuce, the total of the revolutions made by the wheels on axle 1 must equal the total of the revolutions made by axle 2.
For singles, the matching...
Interestingly, there is a check valve between the deuce tanks as part of the fording kit. The "dry" tank will not drain. Item #11 in the image below. This will help keep the systems pressurized in case of engine failure.
John, reading the -10, it says to pay out cable manually. The tensioner valve is operated, by soldier B, I guess, to keep cable taut while pulling the cable out.
If you want to compare, the model number for the M125 front winch is Garwood M3002680. Drum dia is 7 inches and gear reduction is...
About 7 GPM at 1,000 rpm.
The tanks are about 26 x 7 inches in size (cylindrical).
Several different size compression fittings, 1/4, 3/8 and one larger, don't know for sure, depending on where you make the connection.
Probably will not make much difference in the feel of the steering, but I have found that the front tires need to be closely matched to prevent shimmy (vibration, sort of feeding on itself) for highway driving.
RE: Anyone think of doing this with their M35
Mike, I have a system on my deuce, which can handle close to 100% veggie oil. Two tanks, one heated plus dash mounted controls. Used it during my cross country trip a couple of months ago and burned hundreds of gallons of biodiesel and veggie oil...
Jon, as you know the little breathers are spring loaded and do work in any position, but upside down you open the possibility of filling the cap with water, condensation, oil or whatever and in that case it wont open. When it doesn't open your brakes wont release.
I took it one step further and...
The alcohol evaporator bottle is broken on the 8x8, but it shows how the vent tube is situated within.
It is teed into the compressor air intake line, which is permanently plumbed to the engine air intake. No long term problem should be expected, I have had the deuce compressor sucking air from...
The bottle is vented. In this view with the bottle removed, you can see the long tube, which vents to the atmosphere via an opening in the holder.
The TM calls for methanol, but I was using the store bought fluid before the pure methanol became available to me, something that the biodiesel...
This is the valve Jeff is referring to. If the plunger is stuck, you may have to remove the assembly from the hydraulic head and tap it free.
Pardon the condition of the parts, it's from a "scrap" engine.
