Good point, I'm currently looking for an NOS tierod end made for this truck. I still think that using a "standard" ball joint for comparison would be like the proverbial apples and oranges thing.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm thinking that the "sealed for life" design may have offered an improvement...
Will, as you know the purpose of the linkage is to transfer a motion, not to introduce resistance. Like a gear train/transmission, you'd want minimum resistance.
These ball joints were made with a hard plastic, Delrin to be able to keep very tight tolerances. No lube space required, normally...
RE: Singling the Duece, bearing and brake service...
I checked on relining cost a couple of years ago and they wanted $25/shoe, unless you can get a better price, at $100/axle you are better off getting new ones.
BTW, .300 is not that bad, I think new ones are .375
Steamy, is there a data plate on the pedestal? If so does it show the TM numbers for the crane? What about the tag on the dash, does it reflect the crane installation?
I have had my HIAB (from a Navy truck) for eleven years and yours is only the second one I have seen as mounted on an Army...
Based on the above info, I have enough pieces for one light duty towbar and only the lunette part for the medium. No adapters, though.
The image below shows how the medium lunette part was used with a light duty non-lunette part.
The medium part I have has a slight bend in it.
Beautiful job on...
The skinny one is like yours, Jason.
The other ends are shown here, the inner piece is also larger in dia than the "normal".
I don't have the mating piece for the fat one, but used it and a normal "non-lunette" piece for the tow of the 8x8.
I have most of the components to make two of the medium towbars, one of the lunette bars is "fat", the other "normal", anybody know the story (about the fat design)?
Also, I have asked about the sleeves on the towbars and now I see them, right on the cover of the manual, talking about not...
The boiling point for 50/50 glycol water is about 225°F with the 7psi cap, shoudn't be a problem for temps below that. Never saw anything in the PS magazines and I have checked out plenty of those. They call out 7 psi every time.
Steamynachos got one on his 5-ton.
Transferring the crane from one truck to another is a one-man job.
1) Extend boom over bed of truck until it touches ground
2) Un-bolt mounting
3) Raise crane on its outriggers. Putting timbers under the outriggers help getting it higher. This will make a...
