Agreed with this statement. If the rotary converter is the limitation and not line power, a VFD to convert single phase to 3 phase makes way more sense.
Starting an 8 kW motor is too much for the 803a. It might start it, but doing it repeatedly will likely burn up something. If you can incorporate a soft starter, then you should be fine and the motor is a good load match when it's running.
I like the no-mod bracket! Very nice.
I've found the Marinco plugs are the biggest OD and therefore the tightest fit on the cap, but if you run it on and off a few times, it breaks in nicely.
Welcome to the forums Scott.
Have you read through the TM yet? There is a procedure for testing that meter that measures the current from the transducer and compares it against the machine's frequency. It would be good to verify if the meter is off because of the meter or the transducer.
Good suggestion on the pin and sleeve connectors. It would be nice to have some overhead on my plug, but I stuck with the 50amp twist lock because they are so ubiquitous on the average spider box.
It is dry here, but ironically, the front range has seen more rain this summer than I can...

I finished the cap after a few iterations and posted the CAD files here:

For the MEP-802a and MEP-803a generator guys, I like to refit my units with twist lock connectors. While the 30 amp twist locks are flush mount and easy to purchase with a cover, the common 50 amp twist locks protrude from the wall face. I CAD modeled a cover that works similar to the 24V NATO...
I've always assumed that the strainer is zinc plated, base on appearance. I know zinc should be avoided when in contact with diesel. There are lots of tutorials for home plating and nickel plating is pretty common with good results.
As far as I know, and correct me if wrong, but there are not...
The mystery deepens...
I measured flywheel runout again from a more consistent point on the engine block. Found a low spot measuring .010". Pulled the flywheel and found out its about 1/8th inch too big to fit in the lathe. The crank bolts were not fully tight and the mating face of the...
- Any black goo seeping from the exhaust manifold?
- how is your output power configured? What is your load configuration?
- are you getting black smoke from the exhaust
A) At no load?
B) At part load?
C) when engine bogs?
-is the exhaust smoke an even stream and big pulses?
- how old is...
It's getting harder to find replacement gauges and a prebuilt system (screen) that could take the place of those gauges would be great, especially if the costs could be kept to a hobbist/consumer price point for the screen. Also if the back end bits were modular, that would help servicing and...
