... and by removing the bumperettes to utiliseing the tie down shackles and the 90 deg 'Y' to 'Y' couplers - you can loose the spade sockets and the need for 'end 4'. Bracing for side pull would be lost - but how likely is that? The 984 doesn't have that capability...
CSM's Weight Loss Program
OK Jeff - using the large boom support legs - with their ends removed (Tab for stay bar left on), fab sets of 'feet' to switch for each of the functions.
Saving weight from:- Spade Legs. Towbar.
Add holes to boom support tubes for ground anchor pins.
First run of level wind post service. NB. This is the second time I have used this winch since I acquired the truck - the first time I found out that it came with a sheared shear pin! Was retrieving a runaway tractor and ended up using the boom!
So, after changing out the shear pin, I decided...
You should already be able to do this with the drag winch to roll and the boom to lower when over center...
About 5 - 9 postings below these was the second discussion in this thread re changing or adding an additional boom winch and way back it's been discussed about one man operation re an aux...
Unfortunately you'll need both of these for a suspended tow if you do it the TM way - not so if you have an alternative Holmes lift bar...
Now, a permanent 'goal post' to support the boom for travel - like a regular truck crane would reduce that set - assuming you didn't need it variable...
I think I understand your question...
As the lunette eye is pulled, the flukes of the anchor - the two base plates, would go down as they move towards the stuck wrecker. There may have to be a little trench dug to 'introduce' the flukes into the ground, but when at the correct angle - they'd...
Red - I was in a tow truck shop in PA some time ago (truck died picking up stuff from Mechanicsburg) and read an article in a tow mag about a tow company that invented a monster ground spade with winches that they had on a skid steer for recovering stuck stuff way out in the boonies, away from a...
Er... I think an "Up side down W"..... is an 'M'. : )
Jeff - that sounds like a reeeeeal load of extra work! I thought banging in 64 ground anchor pins was a chore but digging that much .. Wowza.
Have you seen the US style ground anchors that were Bii back in the M1A1/M62 days? Enough of...
Let me guess - a track skid steer that mounts to the back of the wrecker like a Moffett fork lift on a sheet rock truck, that has a monster ground spade instead of the bucket???????
I should be ok ... I have friends currently collecting the 8 ground anchor plates and 64 hex pins (not to mention...
This would be a useful addition - assuming you are intending on competing in the local wrecker market, though the rear lift is only suited to military bumpers as opposed to an underlift.
There is, but do you want to add that much weight forward of the pivot point? We have previously discussed...
No service here - besides, I'm a Limey not an Ozzy!!
For years, whilst still in the UK, my mil veh collector/enthusiast affinity tended towards the British Army's recovery vehicles and displays by their museum connected servicemen. The Aussies are very closely mirrored in many aspects to the...
That's the rebuild completed - one further note or tip for initial disassembly or final reassembly on the vehicle..
Remove the sheave pulley guard #3 whilst winch cable is under load/tension, then release tensioner/load and pull slack above the sheave pulley - this will allow the cable loop to...
Jeff - I am with you on this - if the cable is well lubed, then you are protecting the lube by covering the cable, especially if you hardly use the winch and don't get to check it's condition - BUT as the original poster said (???) - the corrosion damage caused to level wind trolley pivot shaft...
