^^^ It ran and started absolutely PERFECT before sitting 5 years with limited starts.
After cleaning the tank and replacing the filters, it won’t start without starting fluid now.
Before pulling the tank, a quick press of the starter would fire the truck off. It was almost impossible to...
^^^ Correct! I aint seeing that.
My old Parker pump did ~2PSI.
SO bought NOS pump and assembly.
STILL ~2PSI at the tank and maybe .5 PSI at the secondary filters.
No, Not the soft lines in the tank - Ive checked, replaced on old pump and the new one.
SO - the fuel isn't leaking outside...
Fuel Pump Facts:
I am seeing ~2 PSI on a gauge at the tank pump.
It is a NEW , just purchased NOS pump. Zero miles.
I have 24 volts at the pump static, 28 when running.
Secondary Canister Assembly Facts:
The secondary canister assembly is NEW (NOS) - with new bypass.
The bypass at the...
Yeah I'm starting to think its the overflow on the canister assembly that is my problem. I just cannot seem to get a base fuel pressure of 5 PSI with only the lift pump - and I bought a NOS lift pump just to make SURE it wasn't the pump.
I have checked the overflow on the filter canister...
Again, once truck is running, fuel pressure is great, truck runs and drives fine.
When i turn on the lift pump, I can hear fuel running back into the tank.
Low pressure at hydraulic head inlet UNLESS I pull the line and put my finger on it, then I get ~40psi while cranking.
Have been starting (barely) with starter fluid and driving truck as normal.
Bad thing is, if truck runs down batteries just a tiny bit - it aint startin.
Have some new data for all of you to consider though and figure out why truck is soooo hard tio start:
My fuel pressure gauge is on...
I cleaned the hell outta it. Gallons of acetone, degreaser. boiling water, pressure washer with sewer attachment to past the tank baffles.
Cleaned the pump with acetone.
All new fuel, all new filters
Added two quarts of sludge be gone. If it treats 1000 gallons a quart, it should work even...
I checked the cap and spring on the secondary filter. Lost the spring! Replaced with new one. Then I found the old spring so now I have spare.
I deleted the flame feed at the booster pump. Found out there was another cap and spring pressure regulator at the booster pump. So while I was...
Air filter is new.
Before sitting, it was almost impossible to crank the engine and it not start. Less than a second it would fire off.
I’m almost thinking checking the hydraulic head would be easier than the booster pump.
Maybe it has some varnish in it keeping it from articulating properly?
Best indication is that the booster pump isn’t raising pressure high enough to fire with starter cranking.
A little starting fluid gooses the cranking speed high enough to start.
Unfortunately, the booster pump is inaccessible to service in the truck best I can tell.
Plugged up the flame heater feed at the booster pump.
No difference.
I'm thinking the booster pump has to come off. Ive had it off before but that was when I replaced the injection pump years ago.
No way do I want to do go through that again if I don't have to!
Maybe I can put the...
One more thing.
I just noticed that when I turn on the fuel, I can see fuel flowing from from the booster pump through the small forward facing plastic line towards the flame heater.
If I kill the fuel, I can see the line fill immediately with air.
I do not think this is normal?
Should I...
.
No Solution.
Have checked for leaks all the way from the lift pump to the tank return.
I have noticed that the pressure while cranking is ~5PSI only.
Should the booster pump start making pressure while cranking?
Once I squirt the truck, it fires and builds to 40 PSI in a few seconds.
Turns out the single piece of crud I was just a small piece of black foam that broke off of the secondary filter and was floating around.
Other than that, the canisters look clean I’m going to change the secondary and final filters anyway since I’m in there - but they don’t appear to be the...
Just received NOS injector.
I also got a NOS secondary filter assembly just so I could get another pressure regulator spring since I lost the old one.
The NOS injector also will not pop until I add starting fluid. So will consider injectors not the problem.
When I was putting new spring in...
OK - found a NOS secondary filter housing for reasonable. and ordered it. Hate to buy lots of extra parts just to ghet a spring - but at least I will know, its not the overpressure valve.
I also picked up a NOS injector to see if it will pop.
Now to wait.
