The injection pump was a NOS unit installed shortly before truck was parked.
What about the booster pump? Id check that- if I knew it existed before 10 minutes ago, where ut is, and where to get a new one?
i took this thing around the block and it runs great! It’s just a pain to get started. :(
I do have a small fuel leak. I would take it apart but it’s safety wired! I am seeing seepage here - looks like on fuel pump electrical connector? Weird.
it has new tank gasket but not where it’s leaking. I’m guessing my pressure washing could have damaged it.
not sure if this is part of my...
If I had to GUESS at this point it’s that my fuel pump is pumping but not enough? When I removed it, it was encrusted in sludge. I had to soak it in acetone to free it. It was a Parker red to pump. If it had any plastic seals inside, they could have been compromised? I see a fountain of...
I pulled the inlet tube from primary filter to get a peek. It had traces of the crud that was in the tank- but it doesn’t have the small orafice that was in the video.
I put more sludge remover in the fuel. From my experience cleaning the tank, nothing affected the sludge except acetone -...
My truck has sat for 5 years with infrequent starts. Gradually it would start and run only with the throttle idling the truck up.
i changed all fuel filters and they were full of sludge/ bacteria poop/ nastiest crap ever.
I pulled the tank and pump. Cleaned all with acetone and pressure...
Solved.
I hate reading through trouble threads and never finding out what the solution was.
In my case, the sluggishness was caused by a slightly sticky fuel rod AND mostly I think that the fuel screw adjustment was out of whack on the bypassed FDC.
I swapped my old FDC on (which had old...
Ive pulled radiator and valve cover to ensure the timing is spot on at TDC (taken radiator out twice to make sure).
I cannot find a procedure to set droop but think that is my next step (based on my searches).
Can someone point me to specific TM or a walkthrough post?
To update:
Fuel tank is spotless and new filters. Fuel pressure A-OK per rustystud (thanks!).
Injection pump is NOS off ebay. Verifed timing at Harmonic Balancer, IP, and HH.
Symptoms:
Hard to start. Must monkey with the Go Pedal to get to fire off and monkey some more to find idle...
Checked fuel pressure today at the bleed on top of the fuel filters.
7 PSI from the lift pump with engine stopped.
49 PSI with engine running at idle.
Is this good?
Checking in. I really suck at this.
1. Pulled radiator to put breaker bar on front bolt just to be sure. Put pointer on front pulley marker per FSM for LDT 465 C (I have LDT 465 D but should be the same).
2. Checked window on injection pump. Its spot on the mark.
3. Pulled cover...
I have new pump.
Boiled out and Acid Dipped Fuel Tank
Changed all Filters.
Added Diesel Kleen.
Full tank of Diesel.
Its not running like poop because its been sitting. I have performed all of the above just a couple months ago. Refreshed all of the fuel system I can think of.
A couple years ago the truck stopped running - from what appeared to be a snapped quill shaft in the Injection Pump. Over the course of a confused year or so I bought a NOS injection pump and gave it my best to install it. Well, my best wasn't good enough. Truck was extremely hard to start...
I am looking for a diesel shop or individual within limping distance of Alvin, TX (just south of Houston) that is willing to work on the deuce.
I need my truck gone through after installing an injection pump - poorly, apparently. Truck is way down on power and runs poorly.
Thanks in advance!
Ok. Back at it.
Truck used to start with barely a blip of the starter. Used to amaze people that they couldn't push the button fast enough for it NOT to start.
Now, it starts after cranking a second or two and takes some throttle action.
Ive made one trip around the block since it...
Recently installed a new IP.
Truck doesn't seem to want to start as easy as it used to but it starts in 1-2 seconds. Previously any bump of the starter no matter how short would start the truck.
I set the idle speed and truck is happy. Not sure what its idling at since the tach is flaky but...
