It worked out because you rotate the cans until your arms get really tired. The coating flows and gets into all places, it is thin enough to do it. Coating will also plug small leaks. I highly suggest the vinegar soak to get the rust out.
This might be a good time to check brake adjustments. If you adjust the anchor pins, be sure the punch marks on the pins face outboard, away from each other. Read the TM carefully.

After a long soaking of the piston tops with the penetrating oil of your choice, sometimes pull starting will work. Of course, that brings a new set of difficulties.
I am thinking of using header wrap on the jeep down pipe to keep brake lines cooler. Any downsides to doing that? What type of wrap would be best,

The accelerator pump works off engine vacuum. Check the carburetor mount gasket for leak. Put a vacuum Guage on the engine and see what you have. All vacuum connections ok, even at the fuel pump?
You might try a little mixture adjustment on idle mixture screw.
That looks very much like an early jeep fuel pump. Rebuild kits are available for those as well as new pumps. Look at photos Jeep parts suppliers have.
