While standing on the original diamond plate step just reach down and hook it with my foot and lift it up or I’ll pull it up then climb on the wheel or tire and get in. It’s such a rare circumstance it’s not that big of deal.

Gone are the cable steps that I never could find on my way down.
I wanted a step that came out away from the truck that you could see as you’re coming down but I didn’t want it in the way while tipping the cab or while negotiating rough terrain. So I can easily swing these up out of the way and...
Lots of great information Ron, thanks for all the number crunching. I’m seriously considering this swap primarily for the better fuel mileage. That would be a huge savings in the long haul.
Video looks great but I’m with Ronmar, like many times while traversing very technical terrain you can’t just fly up it. Most of the time you are controlling the speed just barely enough momentum to get over the obstacles without throwing everyone and everything all over the place. Inevitably we...
So mine is a 2003 1078 converted to a 1079 with a 3126B reprogrammed by caterpillar to 330 HP and the high speed gears installed and fully loaded 28,000 lbs. Curious what I might expect?
Interesting way to think about it. I’m seriously watching this hoping it’s the cat’s meow and would love to do this, this winter and increase my mileage. I forget has anyone posted a MPG with this modification?
Great pictures. Thank you. By the way in one of my posts I mentioned wiring my power window motors to 24 volt and loving it. But after a couple months of use it started stripping the gears out. So I replaced the motors and went back to 12 volt.
After giving thought over night to that theory I don’t think that’s the answer. That would be the same as if they were in the home/rest position wrong position at 1 o’clock then just pulling the wipers off and reattach them in the horizontal position….the problem with that is when you turn them...
I would love to hear the fuel mileage. Something else I am curious about is slow speed rock crawling ability. I seen the videos posted recently and it seems as though you really have to get the rpm’s up when you’re up against an obstacle before it can build torque and over come it. Not the most...
So, my windshield wipers have been working well for years, but today while we’re on the road when I turn them off they stop at the 1 o’clock position instead of down at a more horizontal/3 o’clock position. Any ideas on what could be causing this and/or how to fix it?
