Wow....
First of all, any implied connotations should be directed at the speaker... "Not that there's anything wrong with that..."
Second, Lax - you know I was just trying to make a joke. Sorry if it didn't turn out that way. Busted A/C and 30 hour shifts = altered conciousness. I was able...
I put mine in second, but put the transfer case in low range. According to the -10-1 TM, 2nd (Low) has a max speed of 8 mph, and 1st (High) has a max speed of 9 mph. I can shift from low to high much faster than I can shift from 1st to 2nd. However, I should caution that as jasonjc pointed...
Hmmmm.... I wonder what the Army would have done when it was their truck... If only there was some sort of "troubleshooting" "procedure" for this problem...
I'll bet they probably looked on page 25-67 of TM 9-2320-209-20-2-1.

Bjorn-
Thank you for the caption about your truck. I thought something looked different, but I couldn't quite figure out what.... now I know it looks different with the FDC bypassed!!! :-)
I was just looking back at an older thread in which ken pointed out that the seals in the turbo will let...
RE: Fluids
I bit the bullet and went with the Dynabeads.... I'll report on how they work out in my 11R20 XL's mounted on m135 wheels (require tubes, obviously).

I guess my worry was about interaction between PG and EG. I plan on flushing the system with water, but what if I can't get all the green stuff out? Am I hosed when I put the new stuff in?
Also, the local place has Shell Rotella ELC coolant. Does anyone have any experience with that perticular...
Some of the sites' "coolant equivalency" charts seem to show that you don't HAVE to use "the green stuff," as the next generation of heavy duty diesel coolants last longer. Anyone have any experience with this? Or is this kind of like the GAA vs. New grease discussion - e.g. Why use new when old...
Beware of giving your truck too much credit on the street. The link I posted includes a first hand account of Kenny's tractor getting stuck in a wet parking lot. Got the front wheels over the speed bump, but couldn't get the rears over. Couldn't back the fronts up and over. A 6x4 can get stuck...
Well.. how about some terminology clarification.
The front axle is splined at both ends, with a U-joint in the middle. One end sticks into the differential, and the other sticks into a splined drive flange (what you have been calling a hub).
The rear axles are splined at one end only...
I am the first to admit that by getting a deuce, I was biting off WAY more than I could chew. But, if I only stuck to what I was comfortable doing, then I would never ever get any more capable!
You have a group of people here that all love their old green iron, and love to see other people...

I didn't mean to make you shy away from posting things to sell here.... and for that, I sincerely apologize. I did take the hint - the moderators didn't pull the threads regarding things to sell. Thus, they must be acceptable. I overstepped my bounds by telling you to use the...
Good morning-
Here's an excerpt of a convo had in the deuce forum, but I think it warrants discussion/voting/decisions.
Houdel mentioned that he liked option "A."
I think that option "B" is better, because I used the classifieds to successfully find the two parts I needed, within about a...
dakotafear -
No worries.
houdel-
The irony of us hijacking a thread to discuss the proper ettiquette of forum posting is killing me. I started another thread for the discussion.

Dakotafear -
We actually have a section for stuff like this - "Classifieds" in the left hand column under "Resources." You can post an ad for free, and deal with every interested party directly, without cluttering a forum designed for "Topics restricted to restoration, repairs, and other stock...
When it stops leaking... you know your crankcase is empty!!!!!
And, in a related note -
When I was trouble shooting my slobbering deuce (burning oil that seeps past the turbo seals), I found a pretty interesting troubleshooting procedure:
1. Fill the truck's oil up to full.
2. Drive truck on...
Ditto - Congrats on getting so much done to the truck in such a short span!! I am sure it's a nice bit of relief when something unexpectantly WORKS.
Again - congrats. And, I think you set the bar quite high for turning a truck around from GL to Aberdeen!
