    My new winch

A little help from the gas wrench and everything came apart as you said -- thanks! BTW, there was no shearpin -- it was gone! Who knows what THAT means ... :) The winch needs more than just a repaint, so the whole thing is sitting on the bench now -- winch, PTO, shaft and brackets. This...

    My new winch

Is there a recommended procedure for getting the winch free of the PTO shaft or the PTO shaft off of the PTO? I removed the set bolt from the u-joint yoke at the winch end and I've tried sliding the shaft out of the yoke at the PTO end, but nothing is moving freely and I don't want to start...

    My new winch

Good info -- Thanks! BTW -- a good soaking with PB Blaster over night and a couple of taps with the rubber mallet this morning and it moved fine.

    My new winch

Arrived this weekend. It still had a truck attached to it, though. I have an M-37-B1 truck W/W that didn't have it's winch. I found a decent donor vehicle. and now I have to figure out what I need to do to rejuvenate this Braden winch. The level that engages/disengages the winch is stuck. I...

5 ton dump: Good to be back here!

Indeed, from another "Tipper" -- Welcome back into the Dump Conspiracy. We have one, right?

    ID this winch, please

Thanks for the replies. I googled the casting numbers and apparently it's an 800-series winch, model 636 -- which puts it in the 20,000-lb range. Or so I could figure out. I was just trying to determine if it's worth rescuing.

    ID this winch, please

Sorry if this is wrong forum for this ... Can anyone ID this winch and if it is an MV winch? Maybe a Dodge Power Wagon?? Thanks!

St. Mary's CO, MD Veterans' Day Parade Interest?

No worries, Merc -- it would have been a long trip for you to come down here, anyway. The SoMD 5-Ton Mafia will cover it ;)

    Our M-37's first public outting

I was beginning to think about making the mods to bring it into USMC configuration/spec, but after this discussion I think I'll keep it as is -- it makes a better story!

    Our M-37's first public outting

Thanks for the comments! The tires are the Michelin XZLs that seem to be very much in demand (and hard to get) for these trucks -- my knowledge of them comes solely from what I've read here. You guys know more about them than I do. Mine were unused (still had the stickers on the treads)...

Thanks Bob -- one of these days, hopefully we can catch up with you Northerners ;)

    Our M-37's first public outting

Yes, Thank you -- I know it's an army truck painted to be a REAL truck. But as the others say, it's fun to drive it around as is -- with the top off and the windshield down! We like it as is and feel no need to change it. It IS fun to drive it as God intended -- I ran errands in it today...

    Our M-37's first public outting

Both our M-37 and 817 supported this year's annual Marine Corps Aviation Association John Glenn Chapter (NAS Patuxent River, MD) golf tournament. An ATHS friend helped me with the logistics of getting both vehicles there Thursday morning. The M-37 enjoyed it's first public event (since its...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Finally got tired of climbing up to rig a tarp on the 817 and got a Donovan 2000-series manual pull style tarping system. Working great! 4 bolts and it comes right back off if I want to rig the bows and troop carrying tarp. The rope hardware stays, though -- but it doesn't seem to be in the...

St. Mary's CO, MD Veterans' Day Parade Interest?

Yep, you read that right. They are starting registration already for the Nov 11th Veterans' Day Parade in Leonardtown, MD. Laxcc18 and I went in the parade last year and had a grand time. We would love to have any other Steel Soldiers join us. If you're interested, let me know here or via PM...

    New guy from Maryland!

We're further on down in Mechanicsville -- about another 25-30 minutes from Budds Creek and over on the Rt 235 side. We grow Christmas trees and are good friends with the folks who have the tree farm over by you (Friendship Trees).
