Classier than my setup, I slit a SS tube lengthwise, stretched it open as best I could, and welded ends on. It's pretty lumpy but worked for the 1919 I needed done.
I think the spreader insert might be the thing they suggest you need a different tube for. Good to know if I remove the insert I can run regular tubes at any rate. I did buy some standard tubes, I'll see if I can make one work.
I guess the runflat insert is a nightmare to remove or install and...
So, before I do a separate post of this as a question: what are folks in North America using for tubes for your Ferret runflat tyres?
I've got one that leaks like crazy so it's time.
Now, I do have a couple spares tyres that have inserts and tubes already fitted, so I might just mount one of...
The project proceeds apace. I'd meant to take some more pics but usually too busy working.
Brake hoses arrived, I found a source for carb parts in the UK that was willing to ship. Hopefully those will be here in the next couple days. I also found someone in the UK who sold me the gearshit I...
Darn, I'm sorry about opening my mouth. Like I said, if you aren't *very* familiar with the real deal you are unlikely to notice. You did a great job on the park (where did you even find that tank?) and a 'better' replica would be at least 2x what you paid. so I'd say don't sweat it.
If it...
Overall it looks great, but for me the lack of barrel taper sort of jumps out. Anyone who hasn't seen one up close regularly will totally be fooled though.
Progress! It took a lot of reaching out but parts have begun arriving.
At first I was having no joy, I took the brake hoses in to a local hose shop only to have them say they didn't have the fittings but could turn and braze new back ends on my fittings but it was going to be several hundred...
Funny, a lot of folks buy open top Ferrets and want a turret, then the others buy one with the turret and scrape it off. Reminds me of some ladies I've known where the ones with curly hair are paying big bucks to have it straightened while the straight hair ones are having it curled.
Looks like...
Sorry, I thought in the video you made it sound like the Dodge wasn't in low range.
In low range, yeah, I get it. A friend and I used to amuse ourselves and startle passersby when we'd put our truck in low and both get out and walk around the vehicle to switch seats.
I'm reminded of a story a friend told me about some pot growers many years ago. I guess they thought the sheriffs might be onto them so they got the bright idea to drive their car all over the field to mow it down. It's on a slope and muddy so of course they get stuck. Then they call their...
What parts, for which?
For the CVR(T) I'd like to find a diesel gearbox and a turret traverse gearbox. I have pretty much the rest of it, though my clutch is pretty grotty.
For the Ferret I really need a set of brake hoses, Solex B rebuild kit, and a gearshifter lever assembly.
It's been...
I had an M35 in my youth and enjoyed it greatly, have fun with that and welcome.
I'll find you some M35 parts if you want to send parts for my Ferret. ;-)
Thanks, I'm not going for perfection by any stretch. It's going to stay ugly, but driving something that ancient and yet that heavy means it's slightly dangerous under the best circumstances but outright negligent to operate on a city road if one isn't absolutely confident in the brakes and...
The OP specified he wanted a large capacity of reserve power, also that he had a bunch of radio gear. From the context I assumed that person wanted to run said radios with the vehicle off or there would be no reason to spec high capacity. otherwise he could have used any old $60 battery rather...
I think these days the upfront cost actually works out in the long run in longer service live, but I agree the upfront cost can be breathtaking!
LiFePO4 aren't nearly as scary as Lithium-cobalt and others, but it is very true that with great power comes great responsibility and with great energy...
Peak amps and long life are two places lithium batteries dominate, I can crank a V8 small-block with a LiFePO4 that weighs 5Lbs and they go thousands of full cycles. Next time...
Indeed, back in the day when Optimas were made in Sweden or wherever it was, I bought some that were the best-by far of any lead-acid batteries I've owned, before or since. Once they moved production/got bought out they went downhill fast and the last one I had I warrantied, twice, before the...
Thanks and indeed, it's been amusing.
Visibility isn't really any different from the driver's perspective but I hadn't thought about the noise being better. It's still pretty darn loud, but less loud than the testing I did on my 6.9 IDI van with the engine cover off!
The fuel tank was...
I heard there were three Ferret owners all over in San Jose for a beer some time this year, sounds like you should make the trip here and we can see if we can do better than five.
Well, things didn't go so well today, running rough and smoking some. I pulled the Solex off (lucky one of the...
