My M880 Thread (pics plus bonus M882)

@Bob H I think the truck look better after 7 years  The Gillispie paint is good and the color stay true. I also like N1265's Summer camo as well as Bob H's Fall pattern.

    HMMWV Utility Truck

If you have to change that utility pole light out in on the back 40 and a regular lift truck might not make it then this is the vehicle for you. I would have to think that the 6.2 non-turbo (which I'm making the assumption that it this is) would be a dog with all that added weight on the back.

    BANKS SIDEWINDER and other questions

I thought it was interesting that Mr. Banks said the exhaust smoke was an important factor. Funny but the stock HMMWV didn't belch as much black smoke as the Banks one did. That thing looked like a city bus back in the 70's. OMG!

    correct color 1976 m880

Here are a couple examples: Here is one that is on a group like SS but for things that go boom. Truck and bed cover are pictured half way down. Good look at what the back end curtain looks like http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/4603-Australian-2Pdr-A-T-Gun-in-NY-! This is of a CUCV but the...

    correct color 1976 m880

Well you are going to need to find someone to make the cover or get an industrial sewing machine and make it yourself. If you want it to look GI and period correct you will need to find vinyl material that is either OD green or Forest green. I've seen the tops in both. Like the one pictured...

Our new Chevrolet G506 1.5 ton truck

Not a bad looking truck. A little far for me to try an buy it. Probably wont take much to make it go. Good luck with it.

    M880 headache.

Nice looking truck! Doesn't look in to bad of shape. The electrical on these trucks will drive you to drink that's for sure!

My M880 Thread (pics plus bonus M882)

Many lessons where learned from the M880 series and those lessons were applied to the CUCVs. Like 24V systems and slave receptacles. My buddy had a M882 back in the early 90s that the slave was mounted on the back of the cab right behind the door. I think if a slave receptacle was added it...

HMMWV's for sale, no longer maybe, it happened

Why do I get the feeling that this will go to the last second and the the government will pull them back and say "Bazinga!" Even with the restrictions of being sold "off road use only" I think this is a positive step in the right direction.

    1941 K18-C GMC Recovered today

I am a small business owner and work a full time job for the man. I've been working on a project since 2008 and it is no where near completion. I'd say maybe I'm at 30% done. I do know how it goes. Take your time PB it will get done when it get's done. And PB business not slowing down is a...

Painted the m998 today, Gettin ready for Durhamtown !!

You know if you are just doing a little touch up...spot here a spot there. In the past I've used Testor's Model Masters series of paint. The GI paint colors are made to the NSN so the green looks green the brown is brown etc. Might give that a try if you only need a few spots. Also you can...

    M416 & M101 tire retrofit

Looking on the buddy bearing sight I would think you just have to measure things up and order the right one in. The M416 takes a rather stock bearing and cone. I had a M416 for about 20 years. I pulled the hubs and cleaned and repacked the bearings the first year. I didn't do anything to...

    metal bluing on truck parts

If you have the money go with powder coating. Here is a more or less simplified version of what they do. The part is sandblasted to remove the old finished then wiped clean with cleaning solvents. Then the powder is applied. They electrically charge the powder and the part + for one and - for...

M37 operator first echelon maintenance tool kits - what did they consist of?

I'm not sure but I believe the truck was issued a jack, large screwdriver, crescent wrench (adjustable wrench), lug wrench and a canvas bag to hold it all. But this is just my best guess.

    Interior Decals

Storm has it right. Also there may be more stenciling than stickers. Max speed and T.P. might be stenciled to the dash. If a unit commander wanted to reinforce a problem like no smoking in the truck that might be there along with the good driver sticker which says no smoking. Do what you...

    M37 "creating" legroom

Well, if you have a machine shop at your disposal then the 151a2 wheel might work. The hole size and spline count are different than the M37s. If you do get it to work please post up about it with lots of pictures.

    R-2 crash truck

A good glass shop should be able to handle all the glass needs for you. Find a shop that can do fabricating as they will have all the seals and such. Glad you got it and are going to restore it! Keep us posted with pics as you go.

Thank you for the pics of your truck. It looks most excellent! Good job with it and thank you again for posting the pics.

    R-2 crash truck

IMHO If you are looking for a camper with a diesel motor find a M1010 for sale and make it into a camper drive it at 60 mph and enjoy. Modify etc. If it was a stock M37 truck I'd say go for it and have fun modifying it. Heck I'm doing a big modification on a M37 myself. But the crash truck...

    Generator test adaptor? generator testing?

Okay so I was close...heck it's been um let's see 18 years since I've owned or worked on a M211 so the memory is a bit fuzzy. :)
