Good luck with your retirement project!
I have really learned a lot since I got my M1079 last October. We use it for camping and so far so good. My project is located here: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?147122-LMTV-Upgrades
jjb, if you were asking me, I used an existing hole in the front passenger panel to run the cable.
In the photo the leftmost arrow shows the existing hole (all I had to do was cut it a bit larger).
I used wire ties and strapped to the existing wires running down the right hand side of my frame.
The weather is warming up so I added a bug screen "door" to the van. It has magnets to "automatically" close back once you go through it. Should keep those pesky bugs out. $5.00 at local BIG LOT store.
Mileage has been right at 5.61 mpg.
Top speed going downhill has been 64 mph.
On flat highway I am able to run 58 mph (according to speedometer). My GPS tracker has shown speed to be 57 mph. Everything passes me on the highway including school buses and RVs!
