Well took the bugger apart and cleaned it out (it was NASTY). Worked everything that turned or moved and LIGHTLY greased it.
Put it back in and she fired faster than she ever has.
Problem solved (though I'm still not sure exactly what it was... but she works again).:grd:
Gotta be the starter... jumped the solenoid and nothing. Lots of sparks, but not so much as a clunk. Wore the dang thing out with a hammer, too.
Anyone had one rebuilt before? What's a reasonable cost?
Well, after pulling the batteries to charge them, it looks like they were *extremely* drained (like 30% charge). So I'm topping them back up today and we'll see what happens.
I've already verified the starter button isn't what's causing it.
I'll have to get out there in the daylight and work on it tomorrow. I think I'll give the love tap to the starter first, then work on the relay and move on from there.
I really hope the thing isn't fried.
Well, looks like trouble on the horizon.
Went out to move the Deuce so I could do a couple things I had planned.
Earlier this evening a few MV friends showed up and I fired her up for them/let her idle for about 5-10 minutes. Before they left, shut it down and drained the air tanks, then...
Lighting upgrades. All the new marker lights turn off when you turn off the parking lights; also they don't come on with the B/O lights, just the regular park lights/headlights.
Edit to add: The first picture is some red dome lights I added to the cab. If I need regular white light, I can...
May want to be careful about that. I think those wheels are hub-centric, and they rely on that hub in the middle to keep them properly centered on the axle. If the hole is larger than the hub on the trailer or the holes in the other rims, you might run in to trouble going down the road...
Thanks, wreckerman. I'm afraid of that, but I'm also kinda hoping it might be like a pup trailer and track fairly well as long as I don't whip it around.
Then again, if it's not very big, it might look kinda silly behind a deuce. But on the other hand, it's got air brakes so it can't be THAT...
I'm looking into one of these on GL to tow behind the deuce. Anyone have rough dimensions or anything? I wonder how it would tow on the open road, obviously under 60.
I get lights and indicators without my accessory switch being on.
Before you run out and get a new alternator, check the field wire. Mine was broken and fixing the terminal solved my dead alternator. These old ones (some) require a charged input wire to get them to start charging...
Thanks, Mike!
Although, the house would have been out of our reach had my uncle not passed away last year, so the enjoyment for us is somewhat bittersweet.
