I carry two. Not so much to out run Zombies. More for a few different reasons. I can have extra fuel for my tractor when doing a side job. Also sometimes one has 2cycle mix gas for the chain saws when the wife and I are gathering fire wood in the sticks. I had to drill different bolt holes so...
I've learned that parts for these trucks are WAY over priced. For example I saw one military parts dealer selling a water pump for $80! What seriously $80???? NO THANKS! A GM diesel water pump can be had for less than $20. I am a huge capitalist and happy that I can find things cheaper. One...
I have used Pensacola Diesel many times. Both for pumps, injectors and small parts. They have a rebuilt pump for $395. Their core charge is only $150. I have two of their pumps and a one set of their injectors. I'm very pleased with their work. Maybe they can save you some money.
They don't stick to the case for the most part. They swell up and get soft. Then leak. You should be able to pull it out with you fingers pretty easy. When you pull the tube fluid will come out and make a mess. The level in the pan rises when the fluid drains back from the gear box and cooler...
I wouldn't worry too much about the TH400. Most of the material you see in the pan come from the clutches when shifting. They slip a little during to smooth out the shift. They are metal impregnated so you will see metal in the pan. Along with normal gear hard parts wear. I have pulled civi...
If you only have 1500 miles on your IP and injectors they will work just fine. The 6.5 injectors have a higher pop pressure. They may provide you with a very small increase in power. Although you would most likely not notice. If I was in your shoes I would reuse your injectors.
Before you pull it, are you sure the fuel shut off selnoid is working? Put 12 volts to the terminal where the big pink wire connects and see if there is a clicking sound. If not its cheaper to replace it than the whole pump. Also make sure you are getting 12 volts from the pink wire.
The rear cylinder bypass will only equalize the temps across the cylinders. It can't lower temps from overheating. It can only lower temps at the back of the block. Not the entire block. The temp is read from the drivers side head at the front by cylinder 1. If it is hot at number one, then it...
Swap to a 180 thermostat And a 6 blade 20 inch fan. A few of us in hot climates have done this with good results. The stock 5 blade fan just does not pull much air. Also If you have a 3 core rad upgrade to a 4 core.
Intrested myself. The Idea of one spare in the backcountry is a good Idea in a vehicle with limited storage. I'm planning on a trip to BIg Bend. So space will be taken by camping gear, tools, spares, and extra fuel. I've looked into it but $500 for a few brackets seems like a bit much.
My engine is new, not even broke in yet. So I'm hoping it will get better. I'm thinking of airing up the tires to max on the sidewall and installing a K&N filter. Who knows maybe 17 is with in reach.
I had one of those about 20 years ago. In a K10 short bed with a 305. It worked great. You can still find them from rebuild suppliers online. They are not heavy duty but will give good service in a 1/2 ton.
Agreed! My quest for fuel economy is mainly for range. Not so much economy. I do carry 2 jerry cans in each of my MV's but If I can increase 1 or 2 MPG that could make all the difference between walking and driving after a long day of offroading. I'm happy at 15MPG but I will shoot for better.
I did a 100 mile round trip at 45MPH. I got 15MPG. But mine is a 2door 998. I was empty so i'm probally lighter than most. I have a 6.5NA and the 3 speed. If I ran 50-55 I assume it would have been a lot worse.
Pretty good idea. I go through a lot of water in the Texas heat myself. The passenger side floor board can some times end up looking like a empty water bottle grave yard.
