Discovered why my engine was blown up.

Since gas burns faster than diesel, it is injected later and fired with a timed spark plug. This gives the piston time to clear TDC before the expolosion although it was injected before TDC. Since it takes diesel longer to ignite it is injected sooner in the compression stroke. Because the gas...

Knowing this, do you feel any better about the GM diesel?

    87 M998 6.5 NA oil pressure troubles

Pull and clean the bypass valve. Also change brand of filter if you are using a Fram. They are made of cardboard inside and have sent media into the engine.

Does hydro assist negate the need for the steering damper/stabilizer?

I'd say no. The HYD cylinder will have equal pressure on both sides of the piston to keep the wheels straight. But it will do nothing to dampen movement from worn joints and out of round, out of balance, and uneven wore tires. Not that your parts are wore, but they will be. Also any dirt roads...

    How to keep her cool?

Man I hate to hear that. I wonder is a pass with a bottoming tap would fix your problem? Or do you have a industrial supply around that carries HYD fittings? Maybe you could adapt the lines to the ports. But good job on the clutch mod. Somebody has heard of "adapt and overcome before." '

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Tim, I was thinking since the turbo is heating up the motor oil when the EGT's go up. Maybe adding a extra oil cooler could remove the excess heat from the oil. A cooler along with the rad oil cooler might be enough. The hotter oil is most likely heating up the coolant since it is on the cool...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

I used header wrap on the crossover pipe to the turbo. On my 82 GMC with a 6.2 and a banks. The lower rad hose is right up aginst it. I believe it was preheating the coolant. Mine does have a heat shield there but the shield gets so hot that I didn't think it helped much. With the wrap you can...

    How to keep her cool?

I don't know the bolt circle diameter. But I have a 1982 GMC K2500 with a 6.2. It came with this same 7 blade fan. The 2828 Is the fan clutch I used to replace the bad one I had. It is a 6 bolt fan with 7 blades Like the one you pictured. Looking on the Hayden site I see severe duty 216002...

    6.2 running at 240 consistently.

Un plug the fan's temp switch on the coolant crossover. (Drivers side) This will make the fan run all the time. You can unplug this switch with the engine idling when you first start it while the engine is cold. The fan should kick on. If it doesen't then find out why. Something is wrong. If...

    Fuel Mileage..

With a 6.5 turned up 1/4 turn, and a ram air snorkel tube on a otherwise bone stock M1028A1. I get 19-21. Towing my tractor I get 17. I mostly only run 50MPH.

    Swap 6.2 for another 6.2

Flushing the block is removing the thermostat and using a water hose, flushing water backwards through the coolant passages. The hope is to remove as much crud and crap as possible.

    Swap 6.2 for another 6.2

    Swap 6.2 for another 6.2

If you head gaskets are not leaking I wouldn't pull the heads. If it aint broke.............. If you decide to replace the gaskets I have used Fel-Pro gasket on my 6.2's for 20 years with great results. Swapping a 6.2 for another one is like stated above. Pretty straight forward. It took me a...

    Fuel Tank has new holes

It's a lot less work to remove the power wire to the IP then open the filter bleeder and crank the engine until fuel comes out of the bleeder. Normally less then 30 sec of cranking. Then close the bleeder plug in the IP and bleed at the injectors. If you don't have air at the IP to the...
