Thanks for the comments, guys. Little Cooper has "driven" most of my trucks over countless imaginary miles of highways and trails, and he begs for a ride in one (or more) of them every time he comes to the house. The kid's a good egg.
The 915 has/had a few issues that need to be dealt with...
Yeah, the strap... When the stacks were pulled off these trucks, the u-bolt nuts were apparently cast into the abyss. And I didn't think to bring hardware with me, but I had plenty of ratchet straps. They're the duct tape of the new millennium!
I wasn't gonna take the kid when they offered him...
Ole' Ziggy got himself a pretty decent road tractor, but couldn't get his schedule to jive with the good folks at wright pat. I was happy to help!
My first plan was to go by myself and flat tow the 1009 behind the 915, but that can be a pain in the neck. Then I found out my cousin wasn't busy...
You'll probably break the tool before stripping a lug nut. (But maybe not... Don't go crazy)
If you clean off the end of the wheel stud or budd nut, there will either be an "R" or an "L" cast/stamped into it. I've never seen one that wasn't marked. Some have been illegible, though.
I just took the wide bracket off the curb-side of my tractor. It was ok for highway driving, not terribly bad on back roads, and absolutely horrible off road. I always had to disconnect it from the cowl, fold it against the door, and tie it to the door handle while playing in the woods.
Nice!
I love the electric wipers. It's a little harder to open up the windshields with them, but I'll take that tradeoff.
I'm sure the lube trailer will come in handy, too. ;-)
To be honest, most of my tire spinning was because I threw it into 3-Hi and blipped the throttle on the flat spots. It's a decent way to clean out the tires (a little) and it can be quite impressive to watch.
I did look out the back window pretty often and saw the tires were moving slightly...
I think it's the transportability guides that show the axle weights and cg of the 818 and other trucks. From what I remember the line drawing shows the 818's cg right at the top of the framerail, just behind the cab. Not bad if you ask me.
But now that you mention it, I might just strap some...
I guess I shouldn't say there was no damage... The hole in the floor for the clutch pedal rod is a bit bigger now. I don't even see it if I'm not looking for it.
I think GA was a bit worse. If you didn't hit the trails at exactly the right speed, you'd drop the nose onto the low side and have zero control. On the other hand, I didn't have to shovel 300 pounds of mud off the back of the tractor twice in one weekend at "the plantation".
That's just a...
