Just scrolling to the bottom of this page, I found this. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce-modification-hot-rodding/30735-deuce-security.html A quick search will turn up dozens of threads on this subject. In fact, the site should've brought up a list of them when you typed the thread title...
Welcome aboard.
Since you're fairly close, I'd like to direct you to this thread.
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/steel-soldiers-rally/27588-haspin-2009-ss-10th-anniversary-rally-june-10-14-a.html It's gonna be a big deal this year, and you should get plenty of hands on experience. There's no...
It'll be easier to bring the wheels back here if you consider the 2 hour round trip drive time compard to the 6 hours (+) it'd take to get to cinci and back.
Do you have a drop deck trailer up there? It'd take a little prep time to get an 817 ready to go on a flatbed.
Looks like I'm headed to columbus again.
Grounded, are you gonna be able to stop by my place to pick these wheels up? It's probably less out of your way than going to gimp's.
I don't know if I'd be able to pick up the 817 or not. Maybe we could work out another ss relay squad. Shoot me a pm.
Is this thing resolved yet? I might be able to make it out with something heavy enough to do the job. Shoot me a pm.
Oh, and if it's the result of illegal wheelin, don't bother. I'm not gonna open that can o' worms. (disclaimer)
An old-timer once told me he stripped the interior of his pickup once a year and sprayed that heavy STP oil in the doors, wheelwells, undercarriage, and all the other nooks and crannies with an undercoating gun. He'd let it sit with the doors open for a few days to let all the oil drain off...
Well crud. It looks like like I'm down to one truck ( XM818 ) and a trailer (M200A1/MT6950TRC). And I seem to have lost contact with everyone that was supposed to go with me.
There's still time to get all my ducks in a row, though.
I'd swap the control box with a unit from a running truck. If it works, you know what to do! (That is if you have another 809 series truck hanging around.)
The gravel road approach is certainly tried and true. I've done it myself several times, but it's best to keep your noggin screwed on straight when you try it. Also, some local LEO's could frown on the practice. I don't know if it'd be better to ask permission or forgiveness for something like...
I planned to throw a cover on the 105 I had with me last year, but it didn't get unloaded in time. Instead, I set up the cots in the HQ GP medium and konked out with the flaps up.
I don't remember being cold.
Oh man. I'm not sure if I can make this one, but last year was a great time! Counting pennies now.
Just so this isn't a total bs post I'll say this... If you're anywhere near the place, I highly suggest you go to this event.
Loosen up the water pump bolts and turn it until there's enough slack to get the belts on.
Don't forget to tighten up the bolts after the belt tension is set!
The tractor and dump do use the same chassis, driveline, and all.
If you put a 12' deuce bed on, it'll hang over the rear of the frame about a foot.
My understanding is a dropside cargo bed needs major bracing to survive if you try to tip it.
That's about all I can think of off hand...
There...
That ole' gimp is a handfull. Changing homepages, setting brake levers, spraying gear oil...
Snock, I just figured you went around to get out of range of gimp's road-oiler!
DH, wasn't something amiss with your camera at the GA rally, too? I should stop bringing that up before it...
