Thankfully I have a couple parts units that have good radiators. I managed to pick up a couple of rough looking units for a decent price at the auction. I don't know if I'm going to sell parts off of them or not but I'm always willing to help a fellow forum member in a pinch.
The mechanical Governor isn’t a big problem. Once the machines are connected together if the governors are reasonably setup they won’t surge. The AVR is the real issue with paralleling these sets. You need an AVR setup that can do a master/slave relationship to prevent reverse power on a...
I have revived several with a bit of ATF and some gentle tap therapy.
ATF has excellent detergents and better lubrication properties than most of the penetrating oils. If you need a thinner mix than straight ATF you can thin it with your favorite organic solvent.
I have a trailer with that same box. I'm selling off the generators that came with it and putting my own units on the trailer. I plan to put on a 10kw and a 5kw. The box will work with either size. It has 100 amp contactors in it.
The box allows for seamless transfer of loads between...
I picked up a 5kw powerplant at auction recently. It was obvious that the unit had never seen service. Both generators had no hours and all the MFG dates matched up between the generators and the trailer.
The fun part was opening the tool box. It still had a lead seal on it. @DavidPoz was...
One of the things I do with a machine from auction (once I know it runs) is to change all the rubber components in the fuel system. Jet fuel is super hard on rubber parts. Its a virtual certainly that if they don't leak right away that they will start leaking when you least expect it leaving you...
I'm struggling to figure out an application where a 5kw generator would be useful. Most of your 480v equipment won't even get out of bed for 5kw.
That aside, sure. You could wire the head for that. As you said, it would required a good bit of mods for the controls.
David is getting a GREAT education in the inner workings of the 831.
Does anyone have a decent scan of the schematics? I need to work to restore them like what we did on the 802/803 ones.
Would it be an option to have a local fab shot to build one out of steel or aluminum?
Maybe not the lowest cost option but a sure thing to get exactly what you want.
We were spared the worst of latest cold wave here in NC. Low temp was ~20F last night.
I'm heading out to do the final radiator flush on the unit with the gelled/crystallized coolant.
