MEP 803A smoke after oil change

I'd suggest verifying your oil pressure with a known good mechanical gauge. I have to ask since I don't see it in the above reponses - How much oil did you put in it?

    Availability of TQG's

Which fuel to use for a generator is only slightly less polarizing than asking which god to you pray to or who you voted for president. :P My choice was pretty simple. I have more diesel engines on the property than any other fuel type. I'm able to go get fuel myself (assuming its not sold out...

    Availability of TQG's

Assuming you can find one in stock: https://hardydiesel.com/product/compact-power-12-kw-diesel-generator/

    1997 Fermont 803a

I use a Fluke 87 in the field and a Fluke 789 on the bench.

Grounding Mep-802a while load testing etc

You are correct that the ground should not be switched. Making that connection would ground it. I don't know if you run your generator in the same place all the time but just as a FYI, I have a ground rod driven where I work on generators that I use to ground them. Ground rods are pretty cheap...

Question about picking up mep802a with trailer from GP.

Bilieve it or not but NC doesn’t require a tag for a generator. :) Edit - that exemption may have been rescinded. :(

Grounding Mep-802a while load testing etc

The simple answer is if you run it for any reason, ground it.

    Jumping in with both feet

A little MIG wire will fix that right up! :D

    Generator auction prices

My wife thinks I say NO too easily. She keeps asking why I have 6! :D

    MEP-803a batteries not charging

Here is what I found when I took one apart. Two of the diodes had been installed in the incorrect orientation on the rectifier. The alternator was a fresh rebuild. The part was defective from the factory. After replacing the rectifier its still making power today, 7 years later. :) If you can...

    Generator auction prices

I have a few that I bought to sell but the more I think about it I should hold on to them. With the way they are appreciating this may be some real retirement $$$! :D

    Generator auction prices

It ended up going for just under $1,600. That is more than I have bid and won zero time machines in the past. Man, times change really fast.

    Generator auction prices

I have a few minutes before my next meeting so I'm watching a couple generators cross the blocks at gov planet. I've been looking for a reasonable parts machine to snag and I'm amazed at what I'm seeing happening with the auctions for machines. Machines that are missing parts and don't run. One...

    MEP-803a 60 amp connection?

Thats actually a great price for a set. We pay a lot more than that for just one.

Picked up 6 MEP-802A gensets and will be documenting making them all runners here

I have found over the years of building engines that once you get the engine running and you know its OK, get a load on it. Its especially important for the top ring to have plenty of pressure on it to get it to seat in the bore. You have a limited amount of time after a hone to get this done...

New MEP-1040 pushing strange colored oil out of filler cap

I don’t have a 1040 but that does look like water and oil. Is there any coolant in the machine? One pretty simple test is to put some pressure on the cooling system and see if it holds.

Acquired a Military surplus load bank

I would make sure it was in good working order. Cosmetics don't matter too much but I would avoid one that was full of rust and corosion. Dents and dings I can live with but if its rusty then I'd be more concerned.

Acquired a Military surplus load bank

You can find them from time to time. After several years of looking I finally scored one (an Essex A427A) from an auction site for about $1,800 including shipping costs. It’s like new inside. I’m happy with it but a couple of shop heaters can be had for a few hundred bucks and will do a good job...

Acquired a Military surplus load bank

And if there is anyone near central NC that need their set load banked, let me know. I'm sure I can help.
