Last spring I bought a 45 degree silicone pipe connector with a 3" ID to match the exhaust pipe, THREE lengths of the press-together gas water heater chimney pipe at home depot and one of those connectors that allow you to make any bend in the pipe up to 45 degrees.
Connections go like this...
Even though I have a battery disconnect switch, if I do something electrical more than, say, changing a headlight, I actually disconnect a battery TERMINAL. Not paranoid, switches fail.
Broke my truck.
In preparation for installing the 200A alternator I’ve had for 2 years, I pulled the 60A alternator, bracket, powersteering pump (also going to change out, made all kinds of racket last time I used it just to reel in a new cable, overheated, seemed like a good idea to replace)...
Thanks for responding, I was waiting for you to dive in (seemed like a question that would pique your interest).
Looking like 6.5 GEP is the way to go "for a spare" and yes, to other posters, I do expect, no, anticipate, this engine won't last forever.
I don't have "spares" for my other...
Well, it's not a "bolt-in".
There's a wiring harness to think of, that's about another $250 to $750 investment and it's got to be the right one to match the year/model M998.
For parts availability, relative "ease" of replacement (no wiring harness issues mainly), and price - no one's giving...
Got an offer from a friend for a 1983 6.2L civilian Blazer/GM motor with about 47k miles on it. Was on a plow truck and salt/rust has killed the truck so he's parting it out.
He's got the engine set up for a serpentine belt drive, new 12V civ. alternator, water pump, fan/etc, all of which I'd...
Got thinking about this a few years back when I got my 802a. Nice thing to keep around.
I already had the standard ABC powder FE in my HMMWV - since I'd updated to the OEM high-back seats, it went right by the seat on the floor where it's out of the way and easily accessible (some mechanical...
Keep your eye on the evil auction site (epay). These come up from time to time when someone buys a pallet load of them from gov't planet or other auction sites, or if they cannibalize their broken gensets.
I found a good used starter for $85 and about $12 postage (IIRC), a NEW alternator for...
Which fuse? I’ll be happy to send you one. I’ll order a couple from amazon or epay for you.
PM me your address and details on the fuse you need (the quad protection one or the other one).

Ditto that. I got a set/kit for around $750 two years ago, took me six months to work up enough gumption to do the installation, but it went smoothly per plans. Except for the clearance cut inside the battery box for the seat bolt- couldn’t read the number on the drawings and missed it by...
Exactly what he said. Keep the welder ground wire close to where you’re working.
But definitely make sure every battery’s connection to ground is open if you decide to do that.
Look for Marvin's aviation comm system online. Great unit, I forget which model I bought. Often available through ePay, with a good headset you can save your hearing for future generations to damage with all their screaming around the house.
You can also plug your cellphone/iPod into some of...
And a hearty welcome from Tennessee by way of Maryland (4 more years until retirement to TN).
Post pictures when you get a chance.
Welcome to the madness.
My sister likes fast cars. Runs a go-fast goodies shop (among other things). She set a world’s record with a Dodge Demon last year of around 210mph (officially I think it was 202 by radar), been in all the magazines.
She helps organize an annual fast-car run down I-95 from something like WPB...
True story. When I was stationed in Augsburg, FRG sometime around 80-83 there was a case of some GI who had gotten SO tired of “the herms” tailgating (typical of American drivers, he wasn’t going to move over for ANYONE although German law requires it of slower drivers, friend of mine lost his...
Finally got around to mounting a 2” trailer hitch so I’d have something to mount last years Christmas present - a tailgater deterrence device.
Milled out a 1/2x3” notch on the bottom of the reinforcement plate, then 3/8” off the pintle cone so the nut would seat.
This’ll come in handy when I...
