What Used to Be on my Hood?

So the shallow U-bracket goes across the plate, number plates go over it, the half-moon piece (w/ detents I hadn’t noticed until you mentioned them) holds everything in place. piece of angle bracket’s extra unless it’s getting mounted to a bumper or something. Thanks.

What Used to Be on my Hood?

I was planning on putting 92 on mine (mfd 12-91). So I got to looking at the kit - there’s no instructions. How do the pieces stay put? Even looking at yours, I can’t figure out how that half-moon plate at top stays in place. Don’t mind drilling holes in the hood and stiffener below, have...

What Used to Be on my Hood?

Thanks. Ft. Meade's on my list of places to visit soon again anyway (I used to work there, not far), I was hoping to avoid trying to track down someone who could give me a direct answer. I'm more into IFR these days, flying my desktop around the web.

What Used to Be on my Hood?

1 - what TM covers this, or is it buried in the M998 TMs somewhere? 2 - where, exactly, is this plate SUPPOSED to be mounted. I doubt military regs say anything along the lines of "typically placed in or around the right front fender, bumper, brush guard (or wherever your unit interior...

What Used to Be on my Hood?

Does ANYONE know the exact location for these plates? I’ve seen this photo, and several more showing them more towards the front of the hood, many more on the front blocking air flow, and occasionally off to the right front of the brush guard. As my drill sergeant would say “a place for...

finally got one, it is a M939A2 S.W. Louisiana

Looks like a clean, sweet ride. And, for you and your wife: welcome to the madness. Enjoy.

    Whoops. Gas in the tank.

This is from about two years back when something happened in Oregon where gas jockeys went on strike; Oregon, like New Jersey, forbade adults from pumping their own gas - until the strike. If I Recall Correctly. How badly would a couple of gallons of ULSD in a tankful of gasoline mess things up?

    LED panel lighting redux

These will fit. I bought some of these size LEDs in 120v AC type as replacements for 4W night light incandescent bulbs (which were more expensive). I just plugged one in my genset and it fits, and works (surprisingly, as it's rated 120VAC not DC voltage). Poke around, you might find them...

    Need Help, HWWMV Armor doors

Thanks guys. Definitely gives me some ideas NOT involving rivets. couple 8-32 rivnuts and run screws from INSIDE, seal outside, that can work. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. Or measure with the gauge and buy the rivets by the 100-count for $13/100. I went ahead and ordered that gauge and the...

    HMMWV and 2-post lift?

Send a PM to AOR (Jeff) about this. He's had my truck up on his lift as well as his and I don't recall exactly what he uses for lift points. I'm pretty sure it's the suspension arm lift/jacking points.

Tire noise, wheel wobble, run-out question/troubleshooting

I have this bad habit of overthinking stuff like this. It's not my day job. I value your advice more highly than our parish priest (well, I left the church at 14, but it's a compliment anyway). Thanks.

Tire noise, wheel wobble, run-out question/troubleshooting

Couple of months back I took my truck over to Jeff's Adrenaline Off-Road (AOR here on SS) to balance tires. Took some weight, but did it. Took off my Centramatics - for now. Not a lot of miles since, but here's where I need some help troubleshooting: Front left tire began making some whining...

    Need Help, HWWMV Armor doors

I'm as much of a free market entrepreneur as the next guy, but, CONCRETE BARRIER THAT STOPS RIVERS! (so's the auto censor doesn't delete my message). They're charging $0.81 a rivet (if you buy the set of 4 packs). That's almost four times market rate. Sure, you're paying for someone's time...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Bought a complete, new in box red Dot AC system including under fender condenser with screen. Paid about what I would've paid 2-3 years ago when I first started looking for a truck and thought $1900 was WAY too much for AC. Lord knows when I'll get around to installing it. I still have a...

    LED panel lighting redux

Maybe. I seemed to recall some of my neurophysiology study from Kandel and Schwartz some decades ago so I dug around a bit. Jury's out. https://biology.stackexchange.com/questions/2075/does-red-light-preserve-your-night-vision I prefer red. and the light coming through the faded dyes on the...

    LED panel lighting redux

This works for me, you might try it. Red lighting preserves night vision. Never could figure out a rationale for GREEN panel lighting. I bought a small bottle of Vitrea 100 glass paint and some Eiko 6S6/30V bulbs (about $8 and $10, respectively), but didn't like the paint finish. Might've...

    New guy, 1 each

Welcome to the madness. As you can see from some of the posts, FMVs are a lot like Lays potato chips. Dare you to get just one.

    M998 Noise issue

Question is, really, with all that other godawful racket from the engine, how can ANY of us hear that hissing? I got wrapped around the axle over this a month or so ago for a few moments. I’ve owned my M1038 going on 2-1/2 years and that was the FIRST time I heard the hissing from under the...
