    Proper generator grounding

Now that was some kind of "Earth Ground" engineering marvel. LOL

    MEP803A Sound Levels

I use a spray on sound deadening material from second skin audio. I really like it. I also use 2 inch acoustical fiberglass in my hood where I now route all exhaust. I spray it with a silicon based product to keep the airflow from pealing back the fiberglass layers. Since sound travels up...

Hi NATCAD, but of course I do. Engine exhaust is not enough. You don't want to circulate hot air either. I made a hood for my gensets for inside or outside use. I run the engine and cooling exhaust thru the hood and connect it to a duct outside. Screen your intakes to keep wasps and bees...

Connected my MEP-803A the proper way as my home standby generator... Install pics...

I take it as the number of conductors in the jacket carrying current. If you are running 240 single phase and have any 120 circuits then you are using 3 conductors.

Just want you guys to understand that current capacity in SOW/SOOW cable is less than individual wires in air. So #6 is rated for 45 amps not 50. My 803 handles 70 amp surges and #6 will heat and break down over time at 70 amps. I use #4 THHN for permanent installations and #2 SOOW for...

I use a 35' 4 gauge cable from my MEP-803A to run my toy hauler (70 amps with 3 ac units running). For perm installations I would use 2 gauge thhn. MEP-803's deliver ~13k with no issue. Why take a resistance hit on wire size.

    Generators at GL ?

I sold my very nice / perfect HQ MEP-806 last week for 20K with shipping 510 hour on it. Perfect condition with not a scratch on it. Next ones are going on GovPlanet!!! 803A's are going around 5k with buyer commissions that needed work.

    MEP803a Catastrophic Failure

I have seen the oil drain leak! Maybe you will have the luck of the Irish. Pictures of the area where the leak is better than a thousand words to me. The first thing I do when I get one of these units is clean them. That way you can see minor issues without grease and grime, or 10 lbs of...

    MEPs and Hurricane Irma

If I lived near the coast I would have a PLC monitoring and testing my generator on a schedule. Guy is one of the best contributors in these generator threads. I try to read everything he has to say. He is brilliant troubleshooter. He attended life's university in the field with these units...

    M923a2 Air Dryer rebuild

I replaced my Haldex with a Meritor Wabco System 1200 plus Saver Air Dryers that came off a MRAP and my 923A2 builds air faster. I am thinking about adding another in parallel since I am adding 2 more air tanks to the truck. I have a classified add for them if anyone is interested. I also...

Canada - Prairies - (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba)

I sell products to Canada that do not require a EUC. I was fortunate to have the Fairmont Hotels as a customer. I love the town and the Fairmont Banff hotel. I could live there!!

    MEP-803A Cranks, wont start.

If I see a gen set missing the exhaust flap I pass on it! The design of the MEP-80XA exhaust cover lets water in the cabinet and muffler. The spring and silicon pad do little to seal it up. Sometimes it is better to just keep what you want for spares, part the rest and buy another unit.

    Load Bank?

I also use a Reactive Load bank. Single and 3 phase motors do the trick. My buddy in the shop next to me repairs industrial fans so I borrow some fans from small to about 25 hp to test my generators. When you mix motors into the loads you will really see how well the generator reacts. Load...

Are hydraulic winches hard to come by?

I will remove the front bumper, make a frame extension to mount one vertical on my 5 ton and see how it behaves. I would hope that the cable tensioner would eliminate or reduce bunching. I should have done this before I started asking about where to mount it.

Are hydraulic winches hard to come by?

The idea I had was to mount a series 18 on a 3/4" plate with a 2 to 3" center bolt. The winch cable height from the plate is 1.5 to 3.5" from the bottom of the drum. I would expect that the hydraulic spool is at least 3" on center away from the frame so there should be no difference to deal...

Are hydraulic winches hard to come by?

Just a question, is there room to mount an electric winch where the PTO winch mounts? I would like to find a truck and try to make a rotating mount for 18k winches if there is room. I can make the fairleads that mount on the frame and behind the bumper with no problem. I just don't have an...

    Custom bumpers

I have bumpers and winch mounting adapters like Swamp Donkey used. I also make 12" to 18" wide bumpers out of 1/2" thick channel. that replace the stock bumper They look awesome with large MRAP tow eye through the face of the bumper. I fave a few narrow 18k winches that will mount on top of...
