In the good ole days before GL your SF-97 came with the sale, no charge, and you walked with it in hand when you took possession of your truck.
GL pays nothing for your SF-97. They just see it as a way to bilk another $60 out of us for signing it over and mailing it to you, eventually.
You can do it, however you need to also have the fast idle solenoid engaged. If you don't the mechanism that advances the timing will also create a dead spot the first few degrees of throttle application, then it kicks in. The fast idle solenoid takes up that slack.
They are both on the same...
I have always wondered how well it would work- they strap on quite nice! I am going to remove the 2 clamps used on the HMMWV as they are not needed for this. The two bars on top sit on top of the brushguard and I strap it on.
Put some shackles through the bolt holes that the front until bolts on with. They will point to the side, stick the towbar pins through them, no feet needed.
You don't need a limiting strap- you won't have more than 2-3 inches of "slop" where the towbar and shackles meet.

If it isn't...
I need 2 deuce fenders moved from JuddsPaintballs place in MD to me in the Asheville NC area. If you are heading down I-81 and can grab them I can meet you up on *1 in East TN as well.
Only one alternator will charge. One will kick in first, then the other will sense that the voltage is high and not charge.
Better to put the spare you take off behind the seat. No point in having it spin and wear all that time.
Now if you wanted to have a whole separate 12v system, that is...
I agree that for most people a 12v conversion is likely the better path. The truck was designed as 12v, and the 24/12v hybrid system was old made so that you could jump start with 24v and run 24v accessories.
If you don't have any need to jumpstart 24v stuff, or 24v stuff to run like pumps and...
