Getting an old M725 running again

As Chief 919 said, the engines were to early for its time as well as the 5.7 l Diesels. The 6.2 l Diesel (by Detroit Diesel, not GM) was a good engine, however not understood by the user for it did feel with the axcel like a gas engine. And the injection pump was not like a Diesel injection...

    Should I marry this girl?

With the girls, it is the one side. On the other side, this truck is not an A3 according to the required modifications in Europe for an A3. No Tachograph! So it is a simple US version never left the country. Worthless for us here in Europe! We need for an A3 the European version! Wolf P.S.:I...

    Finally won an M101A2??

The shudder as you call it is based on a failing shock absorber which is incorporated into the overrum brake head; a known problem. Replace it to a new one and the problem is gone. For me it looks like the wrong rims, not wrong tire. Back spacing is inpropper. Wolf

detailed engine pics of the M37

The first 2 pics look good. The third pic looks more like a harness desaster. Anyway, if it helps.... Wolf

    tip for no hot start

The shwich on the rear left side of the engine is the thermal feed back to the glow controller. You disconnected that one, so the controller always gets an opnen signal from there, which for the controler means: Hot enought to start without glowing (If I did read the harness diagrams correct...

    M725 gear ratio

bcowanwheels is right, the truck is NOT designed for "racing". The max speed governed is 60 mph in the original setting. And a good useable speed is between 50 and 55 miles. You have to accept that or quit. The other gearing might help to get the rpm down, but not realy solve the problem of the...

Anybody ever try putting an old Detroit diesel in a 725

If you still find a good 6.2 l V8 Detroit diesel, it is also a goog engine. It needs some modifications. And somewhere in the net you will find the neccessary adapters to the original transmission. I made all this myself and it works fine. Fuel consumtion is around 12.6 mpg which is acceptable...

Getting an old M725 running again

O.K., anybody can do what ever he/she wants with its M715 series truck. However, this yellow one is a somewhat interesting private variation. A little command on serial numbers: as long as the truck did not not go throu depot maintanance the statement with regard the serial number on the...

Here are the rules for alternative fuels.

What we should learn from all of this: the government wants us to buy the fuel at the gas station. They only want our tax. Else they do not care for anything like biological fuel, reduce waste oil (which here in Europe is recycled) or anything like that. Money to the govenment. And you are on...

    16.5 9.75 steel wheels

With 9.75 inch wide rims the 33-12,5 X 16.5 should work, if you avoid low pressure for better sand or mud performance, supposing the wheels are ok. Wolf

    USMC Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen 290 FAV

What is 125k$ for an Army vehicle. The Mowag Eagle IV is at 862000 Euro or close to a million Dollars. I do not want to know what the US Government spends for a Force Protection Vehicle or a Buffalo. By the way, the G-wagons are not interem, they are longer term, now with the 270 Common rail...

    CCKW 353 Airtransportable / Airborne

A friend one owns a CCKW 353 Airborne tipper with a wooden box. To my knowledge and the litherature I have on hand these vehicles were used in Europe. The rear end chassis with to cargo bor/tipper body was the packing for the front end, however only with soft top cabs. So your truck seems to be...

    GMC 353 (orig.7.5x20) on M35A2 9.00x20 tires

I think, that the braking problem is a smaller issue for the Jimmy brakes have a good potential if in propper shape. And many Armys did conversions on tire sizes and no brake problems are reported, at least in Europe. Technically, the rear axles have a tendency to overbrake, but that is a...

How many of these have you seen

In the video the Kettenkrad are of those of the early versions. The side rails beside the rear seats are still open. They founf out in the service, that these openings let the big coats fly through these openings and get in the tracks which caused severe injuries to the passengers. The engine is...

    New rings/seals

Probably your valve stem seals are getting old and leaking a little. On the other hand, who runs a vehicle 30 minutes in idle, except he has not to pay for the fuel? And one more thing: Are you shure, it is oil and not collected ashes mixed with water? This stuff also looks like burned black...

    GMC 353 (orig.7.5x20) on M35A2 9.00x20 tires

7.50-20 is a standard tire size. If you not insisting on the original tread pattern, there are many tires available which do last much longer than the original on road use and there are modern tires which have a much better off road performance than the original pattern, for example tipper...
