Jon H Just picked up this thread (I was searching for 5 ton Soft top conversions! - Go figure).
I have imported a few "wide tracks" and civilianized them for civi LR owners, so I have a couple of boxes of take off military electrics n lights etc., if you need anything, also a...
rrrr - that is one heck of a hunk. Quite the Prime Mover.
Can anyone say modern Mack NO.
as I said earlier, do you still have the 3' off cuts from the frame?

" Look just above the Starboard headlight."
Hate to be picky - but I think the Port side is the left... but I'm not a nauticle person so I'll stand corrected. As remembered by the neumonic phrase "Pass the Port to the left".....
.... however, great job on "hiding" the mod and keeping the...
Well if you do "bob" your truck - I'm looking for the bobbed frame pieces for my 5 ton project... 'Bob to the minus one', or 'un-bob'... I guess stretching needs a name too..
Thanks in advance.

Ron - Not sure if it was a pic of the towbar that you wanted - I'll try to extract more pics of the USMC Towbar which seems to be the main part you need, but do not know the source of the cross bar with the clutch hooks at the ends... Though it is very similar to that used on a Holmes 750 setup.
What is the origin of this setup - is it standard kit for an 816/936? Looks like it is partly USMC towbar suspended from 816 wiffletree.

We had the same on this Sterling. Had to remove the sump, end caps (tap up all that wern't frozen), remove shells and replace caps, remove drive shaft, diesel down the bores, then put a bar through the UJ. The gap that the removed shells leaves, is enough to allow the UJ bar...
Not sure what model 'Alvis' this is, but the orange triangle and red on white number plates are the equivalent of Dealer tags. The blue circle in the bottom of the windscreen - passenger side is proof of payment of road tax. Fire extinguisher and aerial mounts suggest '80's or '90's maybe...
Hey Cody - like the web site. So I see that you enjoy the trucks - did your search for parts ever take you outside the US... I know the British army is in the process of switching over to an all M.A.N fleet, and the SVR (wrecker) is one heck of a piece of kit, even the doors look the same as...
D@mn, I thought that the EUC would take a while and not get processed in time to meet the 'pay in full' and 'pickup' deadline.
Oh well... I'll keep reading! Thanks Howard
OK, so I got accepted to bid on Gov'Liq site - fell head over heals for the M.A.N tractor wrecker but had to watch it slip away as time ran out due to not hearing back on the End User Certificate EUC requirement...
No idea how many more of these are around - don't even know why they were...
Hmmmm - so what does technically count as a wrecker? Perhaps the 'crane-tractors' should NOT be counted as wreckers either, or perhaps a fifth wheel 'underlift' would then make it count, or should it have to have ground spades to be a wrecker? A tank transporter with single or dual rear...
Wrecker that doesn't count?
It is a wrecker, but as it's under 5 ton I guess it doesnt count!
Only 6 in total were ever fitted this way, there were only ever two serving at any given time, new ones replacing the previous as required... as in parachute failure etc!
Used by 2 PARA, for front...
Hey Dave - just picked up on this thread... wow, am I pleased for you and naturally envious. I've been collecting M984E1/A1 manuals for a while, since I too think this is the ultimate wrecker and would dearly love one.. I think I am more jealous of you than my mates in the UK, Nick runs two...
Cool pics.
I just got back from getting the HCS330 moving again - now headed for total resto.
I believe its' rating is 15 ton.

The orange one pictured was one of a pair used commercially up to the late 70's/'80's in Jersey . The sister truck is now under it's own steam and is about to be shipped for restoration to original USN condition.
