Remidy for level wind pivot lube..
Thank you squirt-truck, but this IS UNACCEPTABLE!, to my lowly engineering based mind especially as the upper felt seal is perfectly located to sit in a pond of trapped water .. so I plan on exploring a pathway drilled into the side of the trolley, angled...
In tearing down the siezed Level Wind and Cable Tensioner, I have discovered that the Sheave frame extension #20 shaft was never drilled for a grease fitting #16. No lateral delivery hole to needle rollers either. And no - the old grease is not solid thus hiding the hole. I even ran a lathe...
Oxy-fuel welding help.
What Zout said. Not totally sure what your problem is, sounds like improper O2/Fuel mix.
Start flame with pure Acetylene, whispy yellow flame which smokes and sends out black soot..
**Add more fuel 'till soot goes and you get the inch of straight orange flame.
Slowly...
Hmm - I thought my front winch looked wrong! Just released from GL auction, the cable comes up the front of the drum, over the back sharp edge of the level wind frame, over the pulley then down, under the big fairlead roller and out! Cable is not level wound on the drum, all bunched up on one...
I realised later today that the drum was grooved to only take 1 layer, not like commercial truck mounted cranes which have a smooth drum and many layers, therefore it is QED that if the drum is full, then you have all the cable that you are 'sposed to have.
Absolutely. I have been winching...
Ran out the boom and lowered the hook yesterday (for the first time), hook set up for 1:2 reduction not using second boom wheel and cable terminating at boom not hook - this is how I got it....
However, when the hook is lowered to the ground, there is only 8-9 wraps left on the drum. Single...
Take I88 SW to Oneonta then 23 West (about 45mins from "1onta") ... and yes it is a big muscle/antique car swap meet with some mil stuff. Not too much last year on the green side of things though.
... and don't be in too much of a hurry to get that Duce...
'cause my "hook" isn't road ready yet (SF-97 etc., etc.) so I can't offer to tow it home! :)
You taking the V10 to Norwich car show this weekend? (They have ExMils there too)
Welcome to the neighbourhood! Sorry - don't have a Detroit, buy won't hold it against you! I'm recently new to the "Cummins club" and learning fast'ish...
So where is the seperate flasher and switch for the OE 'lollypop'? I do not have another switch.
No answers / explanation on lockers yet?
Havent even looked for an aux airline yet!
Oh yea - no trailer brake lever - guess that's for the 818 etc.
Thanks in advance.
Not sure if this has been resolved but if greater than vernier calliper accuracy is needed to measure a narrow 'depth', then just add/subtract the ring - a new or old even broken ring can be used with a micrometer as the slot is cut.
Hope this is not a "derr" statement - just trying to throw...
More questions to wrecker folk:
i/ Orange "lolly pop" inboard of LH turn indicator on front fender - was the use of that replaced with rotating beacon - mounted from rear left gun ring support socket? If not I'll check for bad bulb!!!
ii/ E-3 Stowage locations... items 6, 7, 8 and 13...
NAPA Air filter element # for 5 ton
Did not see an answer while looking through threads so I grabbed the book from my local NAPA dude and looked up using dims myself...
Now installed in my M816 - nice and snug, clips (5) pull tight on seal.....
NAPA Gold filter 9088
Hope this helps...
I was down at a base in PA last Fri collecting my latest and saw two truck drivers wandering around, tape measures in hand, one very busy on the phone, both looked vexed and scratching their heads.....
They has already loaded the M911's but they hadn't been told that they were oversize...
New to me M816 'Oreo'
Just collected an 816, gone through BII kit, and it appears I have "double stuff"!!
i/whiffle tree .............................. 4910-00-347-9703 .............. TWO number
ii/towbar ends - chain clamp ........ ????-??-???-???? ............. TWO pairs
iii/towbar...
Yea Warthog - I had seen that one, lots of good technical stuff, though I was actually looking for the 816 equivalent version of the current manual (984's) but it didn't actually exist. It appears that the towbar for the 816 was a 'see all - do all' with the exception of a couple of different...
Thanks Ron - I had read 2-20 in the TM but I guess I was looking for more - as described in the M984E1 TM - with references to Soldier A and Soldier B.
Doesn't detail any alternative proceedures or equipment for all the different vehicles the 816 is expected to tow. The 984 manual goes into...
Done the search through TM's and FM's - couldn't find specific instructions for use of 816. Could someone point me in the right place in this forum - I will take necessary abuce squarely on the chest... This is probably like the "it's on the bottom' shelf sir" in the grocery store since I'm...
John - you are quite right there. Thanks. I hadn't planned on "putting out a shingle" to make/sell these, just for personal use. Heck - I even made my own scaffold sections 'cause the price for used is silly money. (and yes, I was also a site scaffold/safety inspector too (in a past career))...
