I cut it 25% with paint thinner mineral spirits I think. Been a few years but I know I cut it only 25%. I just sanded the trucks no primer. The correct way would to use a etching primer them paint. I did not use A hardener until my last 151 I had done. It does get a little glossy with a hardener.
you know OE parts are 5 times more expensive? I have rebuilt a few cucv's and I get the cheap fenders and other body parts. There all a little off and need some help to fit. even the OE ones need help.

Make sure tour headers are for a 1 ton and not a 1/2 or 3/4 ton. There will be a issue with trying to use headers for a 1/2 or 3/4 in the the 1 ton frame just like you have stated.
